Last Nights Injuries
Hate to make a Thread like this but last night suckage included guys leaving and not returning.....

Anybody know anything:

Lersch could only walk on one leg. Did not look good.

Marcus Jones pulled up at the end of TD run and didn't return.

We lost an OL. I forget who...

Other than that it was a great night.

RE: Last Nights Injuries
Perez was the O lineman.

The injury to Jones turned out to be a killer. Hope it's not serious.

And the injury to Lersch was pretty devastating as well. He's been a really solid receiver for us the last few weeks, and I think it was after he went out injured that they had to rely on Harmston who then fumbled after a big catch.

It was a disaster. Need these guys back for the MACC.

I think Jones was ok. ESPN showed him jogging on the sidelines. I would expect him back for Detroit. Embry came back in, I think.

The others didn’t look great

Perez' injury looked like a repeat of his ankle injury he got at Akron. He didn't play last week.

I saw it in slow mo. He got bent backwards in a pile and his leg was caught. Tough dude to get up and hop off.

Yeah, and hop and hop and hop. I'd get about five yards and fall on my face!

Another player who came out, but not due to injury, was Mykelti Williams for targeting. Fortunately it didn't hurt the D, but he's a good defender who likes to hit. Now he has to sit out a half at WMU. Personally, I thought it was a bad call.

And hop diwn the sidelines...

I was confused on targwting so looked up on NCAA site:

If the foul occurs in the first half of a game, the player is ejected for the remainder of the game. If the foul occurs in the second half or overtime of a game, the player is ejected for the remainder of the game and the first half of the next contest.

Mykelti was ejected in Q1 so expect him to play vs wmu.

I thought it was a legit call. It was helmet to helmet.
Is that his second one this year?

Wasn’t that in the first half? If so, he should be good to go for WMU having sat out the 2nd half last night.

RE: Last Nights Injuries
1. It was the right call. It was unfortunate because the runner was being brought down so it’s not like he aimed high, but it was clearly helmet to helmet.

2. It was in the first half. He’ll be back for WMU.

RE: Last Nights Injuries
Excellent. Didn't realize that was the rule. Thanks to everyone for the clarification.

The reason I didn't like the call was I have in my head that Mykelti had one or both knees on the ground himself when the collision occurred. There was another Huskie in on the play as well, I believe. It seemed like the runner lowered his head (as runners do) and that Mykelti wasn't actually hitting the runner from a dominant position, if any of that makes sense. I recall looking at the replay on the scoreboard and it reinforced my perception of the collision. I might be way off base, but that's how I remember it. Feel free to tell me I'm nuts. Thx.

I'd say you were right on. I was hoping he hit him with his shoulder but that didn't happen.

It a was more unfortunate than anything, but with the way the rule is written it was the right call

RE: Last Nights Injuries
They need to look at the targeting rule in off season. I understand the intent of the rule but the last two targeting fouls did not fall under intent of rule rather rule needs to be revised. Pulling a Doug Plank (showing my age), is the type of hits that should be flagged and penalized.

RE: Last Nights Injuries
Agree. I'm all for protecting players so the game remains viable, but the rules need to be revisited. I think the officials don't know what to call half the time.

On another note: Plank was a beast! So was Fencik. So was that whole damn defense.

Not to sound completely silly, but the Huskies' defense this year reminds me a bit of the '85 Bears--flying to the ball, big hitters and great tacklers, pressuring the QB with a quick powerful D-line that constantly pressures the QB, run stuffers, fast jacked-up linebackers, everyone feeding off each other. In a weird season with a down offense, the D has made every game completely watchable.
