I thought everyone said WMU had no defense.

They held NIU's potent offense to 7 points in the first half!

13-7 WMU

Miami came out as fast as a slug, but got two TDs at the end of the 2nd to tie it up at 21 by halftime.

RE: 11/20 - NIU vs. WMU and BSU vs. MU Game Thread
Ball State was up 21-7, but Miami scored 35 unanswered once we realized we were playing Ball State. Our first 300 yard rushing game since 1999.

Now let's see if we go bowling, it's doubtful with how many eligible teams we have. Though we win the East if OU beats Akron (probable) and BG beats UB (very unlikely but not impossible).

Can someone else go to the MACC in NIU uniforms? This team does not deserve to be there.

Well I'll be damned, glad to have been wrong.

Not sure if tonight was due to Senior Night at Home, the firing of our D coordinator, or NIU looking ahead too much. Or a combo of all three.

For the first time, I don't blame NIU fans for getting on Carey's case. Even though you had the MACC wrapped up, laying an egg in the final two...

Between scheduling the HUskies 4 conference games in 20 days and an inordinate number of targeting calls; it's not hard to believe that the conference has it out for NIU

NIU played 4 games in the last 20 days because they scheduled an earlier bye and booked a late season saturday game at BYU. That gave them an extra saturday MAC game and an easier schedule (rest and calendar wise-we know the non-conf teams were tough) than most of the MAC. Part of the reason they went on a run was due to the schedule favoring them through week 8.

As for targeting calls, I've seen a lot of bogus ones, although nothing tops the EMU-Toledo game where almost every hit above the waist resulted in a targeting call. There was even one on a Toledo player on a punt return where he could have lit up the EMU kid on a crackback open field block but let up and still got tossed cuz his helmet made contact w the upper body. Another one in that game where a player got tossed going low open field and the ball carrier ducked his shoulder and drove him into the ground and they threw the defender out cuz there was helmet to helmet contact about 6 inches off the ground.

Our offense is awful, that's all there is to it. Childers has 21 starts and gets outplayed, as usual, to a backup true freshman. He single-handedly lost NIU the last two games, three turnovers against WMU and a pick-6 against Miami were the only points they scored in the 2nd half.

By rule it was textbook targeting.

The rule sucks, but it was correctly applied.

It could be the beginning of the end of football. How many people want to see not only a questionable free 15 yards for the other team but one of your best players ejected for the rest of that game and half of the next one? I think people are going to find other things to do.

They need to add intent to the rule..that was clearly not intentional. Eleby spun back and I think surprised the tackler just as much as himself. Split second to react there. I didn't see any intent to lead with the helmet. More of a surprise collision.

Agree. They need to factor intent into the rule. Sometimes sh!t happens and helmets collide accidentally. There shouldn't be punishment for that.

That's how i saw it too. The WMU QB had his back facing the rusher. Then the QB turned around as the rusher was about 3-4 feet from him and already had forward momentum that was going to carry him through the QB. How is the rusher supposed to anticipate the WMU QB is going to turn around and face him last second?
