That was beyond awful
One of the ugliest NIU games I’ve ever seen. Childers, the WRs, and Coach U all should be ashamed of themself.

They need to take a long hard look at grad transfer QBs in the offseason because for Childers to throw a 5-20 half with a game costing pick 6 deep into his second year as a starter is inexcusable.

With that being said, the defense is still phenomenal and NIU’s likely opponent in Detroit got beat 52-17 tonight.

Go get WMU.

So, same offense as the rest of the year. Santa got benched for terrible plays like that. Or to be exact, plays that weren't as bad as that.

We now have four games this season where we've scored 7 points or less.

Yep, fortunately the game it finally cost them came once they had the division clinched.

Thank god for Ball State because I would be in full meltdown mode like everyone else otherwise.

This loss was on Carey. How in the world can a team concede a game before it starts. I don't care if championship spot was clinched. It is embarrassing to have Carey as NIU's head coach, just embarrassing. I hate to be negative, it is just so hard to take. Gutless, spineless, coward, conservative, scared. All good descriptors for our "river boat gambling" head coach

Childers was good in first half but the drops added up. The pick 6 sent him into a spiral to the way he played in the first 4 weeks. I question his mental toughness.

No matter what happens with MACC, this game to me really highlights that the chance for NIU to ever get back into the top 25 conversation in the coming years is pretty much NIL with Carey as head coach for NIU, nil, zero, nada

I question our head coach's mental competence.

He’s been throwing for like 125 yards a game during his “good” streak.

He’s just bad. There’s nothing that can be done about it this year, but he’s just not any good.

What the heck happened to the O-line? Perez got hurt and I don't think came back? They got pushed around. Don't know how you can't try and get a screen or something Harbison on one of those last possessions.

The Childer's pick 6 was awful, just can't happen, but I thought if you look at the rest of the game (can't just take that 1 play out, I get that), it was OK, 1st half I would have considered good.

Our offense sucks against almost everyone though.

Of all of Utah's opponents we scored the least, only 2 of Iowa's opponents scored less than us, only one of FSU's opponents scored less than us, only one of Miami's opponents scored less than us, only a 1-AA team scored less than us against BYU...there's a common theme here.

NIU averaged over 6 yards per carry on the ground. Line had a couple of bad holding penalties, but they didn’t get pushed around.

Coach U is a terrible coordinator. He’s gotta go in the offseason. Letting Childers throw 20 passes in the second half when you’re running how they were is hilariously bad.

They had 3rd and 2 on the second to last drive and had Childers throw it and then Wesley throw it on 4th instead of simply handing the ball to Harbison.

Hilariously bad playcalling.

We could have run two run plays on 3rd and 2, with 4 minutes left and with Marcus ineffective in passing but instead we call 2 pass plays, and guess what we lost - Bill Mallory is sprinkling fairy dust on Mike U.

+1000 Harbison averaged 6.4 yds a carry.

I don't think he has the skills to be a division one quarterback, so I wish they wouldn't put him in the position where he has to take all this heat from a fan base. Kid is giving his all, but I'm not sure we will ever see the results we hope to.

Defense is just amazing, though. It's tough to keep getting back out there when you know your offense isn't going to do anything to keep you off the field

Don't worry guys, you'll feel a lot better next Tuesday night and work out those offensive kinks you have. We've got some issues on our end that go beyond on-the-field performance. We even fired our defensive coordinator today.

Agree on that round.

2nd half- we scored a TD, Childers threw the pick 6 (after an awful drop by Wesley that would have been a TD), then Harbison ran for 32 yards...after that, here are the running plays:

Harbison for 2 yards
Harbison for 1 yard (holding)
Childers for 5 yards on a 3rd and long
Childers for 2
Harbison for 2
Harbison for 5
Nettles for 5 Yards (Harbison looked gassed)
Nettles for 2
Harbison for 2
Harbison for 4 (but holding!)
Harbison for 7 yards on a 2nd and long
Childers for 2 on 4th
Harbison for 4
Childers for 4

I still hate the last 2...but the O-line got beat the F up the last 1.5 Q's of that game.

Yea. And Carey has been doing that ALL year. Last year too. That's why MD says what he says.
