RE: Daoust GONE!
So, does this change a few people’s perspectives?

Moving forward, I do hope we stick with a 4-3. I would love to see a truly attacking 4-3, but it either requires different players, different coaches, or more time.

This doesn’t address the confidence issues though, which is affecting all three phases. Maybe we’re over that hump after Ball St.

Doesn’t change my perspective, I still think Lester was a bad hire. Him choosing Daust to begin with just adds to my theory.

We'll see if he shakes up the staff a little. If I was betting I would say he'll just make Esposito lone DC. But I dont know ****, so we'll see.

This is step one. Get rid of all your drinking buddies and retreads from the Cubit era. Find some qualified DI football coaches.

Duggan should have been the DC from the start, but Lester will probably let Esposito have the position. Espo might still be an upgrade over Daoust though.

Obviously you don't like seeing someone lose their job. And from reading the anecdotal stories here, sounds like some players will need a significant attitude adjustment anyhow, no matter who winds up in charge.

Still, on the upside, our worries that Lester would be too afraid to fire "friends" has at least subsided somewhat. And as Colin mentioned, hopefully this is Step #1 on the To-Do list to repair the team.

Duggan is the Special Teams coordinator, why is everybody so up on him? We suck at ST.

I do know that Daoust was a large reason Spillane went running to PJ in the first place. Not many players liked him. He was opposite from the grandfather Pinkham who ran a tight ship but wasn’t as in their face.

Of course he didn’t have to be since that was PJs job.

Day late and a dollar short. Not sure it's really going to help us much either way. Right decision, but weird timing.

Guys like Daoust think yelling makes them a tough guy. But doesn't realize he needed to earn respect before taking that path. But honestly, I don't care about the yelling stuff, it's that he just stinks as a defensive coordinator, when you get outschemed on a weekly basis, everyone knows it, including your players, and all the yelling in the world won't fix it.

At least we will no longer employ the only DC in 2016 who thought his players could go one on one with Corey Davis. And he was employed at Ball State

He’s at UMass. He’d never work under Lester since admin gave Lester the job over him.

Doubt that, going to be someone who he coached with at the D3 school.

What I saw Tuesday wasn't a coach being "outschemed", it was shtty DBs looking like they were 6 year old pee-wee players.

Agree here.

Why officially fire him six days before the final game? To publicly shame him? You can send a message to the team by internally stripping him of his responsibilities. Tell him to take the last six days off - don't come into the office.

The on field performance was the same sh$& show we saw from game one to game 11. Pull the trigger early in the season or the middle of the season for real change. But six days left. Pfft!

The team wasn't the only group that needed the message that changes were being made.

The impact of doing this publicly was for donors, season ticket holders, alumns, businesses that advertise, bowl committees, etc., etc. This needs to be public going into the off-season when people start making decisions about what they are going to do regarding next season and/or a bowl game. It also gets a jump on the hiring season to maybe bring in someone from the outside. Might even help Daoust in that his name is out there for other jobs ahead of the rest.

And, who knows, this might have come from above Tim where he didn't have a choice.

It’s a good decision. It’s a step, if not a late one, in the right direction. Firing a member of your handpicked staff is never easy and in some ways an indictment of your own failure. It takes a lot of soul searching to do it. I am curious to see how they respond.
