+1. These games are great for the finances. They look good on the schedule. We need to be able to compete against a couple of big programs every year.

1.4 million is more than 5 times the TV payout from CUSA in total.

As much as I dislike the NRG games, I don't see them going away. The money is too good. I wish our fans would show. We look bad at NRG in more ways than one.

1.4 million. How much is that in Owl Club memberships?

But it doesn't matter. I am continuing to withhold OC money to show my displeasure with the program. let them hold a bake sale.

We get it. I think you can assume all the regular posters here know you have taken this position, and can just let us know when you have decided to start your OC contributions again.

Weren't you one of the ones advocating reduced financial support to show displeasure with the football program? If not, my apologies.

I'll be back when we win 10 games in a football season. That's what i said when I let my football season tickets go. I kept a minimal OC membership for my season tickets in baseball, but I am considering letting those go too.

Do we have any idea how much the money actually is? The way I read the articles we are paying LSU $100k for the three game series (1.4-3.5+2.0). How much do we get for selling a single game to NRG?

I can't remember. It's been awhile since we sold a game. For some reason I'm thinking the sale of the game is $5 million, but Rice must negotiate payment to the opponent from that total. We get what's left.

It better be something in that range if we are paying LSU $3.5M to come here to Houston. I just about fell out of my chair when I saw that figure!

Even UH is willing to go NRG for the cash even though the new stadium was advocated for in part to play attractive OOC games on campus.

Did anyone else notice the part where (1) Rice is just a datapoint on the line of increasing LSU payouts for similar schools, with some minor deviation, up and down over the next 2-3 years, and (2) in the 2 for 1 deal, Rice pays LSU more to play in Houston as LSU pays Rice in the two visits to Baton Rouge (setting aside inflation)?

RE: Rice-LSU payment details
Speculating here but I’m wondering since Rice is paying LSU to come to Houston than Rice will get all if not a substantial chunk of the ticket sales. Potentially parts of parking and concessions as well. Sure NRG will get its take, but I’m sure Rice nets positive and substantially positive on the deal as long as LSU fans fill the place.

70,000 x 50 a ticket = $3.5 M. There are more seats than that and tickets will be more expensive. Presumably there is some tv and sponsorship money opportunities in these deals as well. If the Rice take on that game can remotely come close to the cost of paying for LSU to whip us we net $3.5M plus on a 3 game set. Seems right.

Or we got paid in the $5M range and subtracted out the payment to LSU as was said above.

I think the typical arrangement is that we sell the game to NRG (or whoever the promoter is), and they in turn collect the ticket sales, concession revenue, and so on. In other words, we as the nominal home team get a flat fee, and the promoter does all the marketing work and thus keeps the game-day revenue.

$1.4 Million. Just as long as none of our Players suffer significant injuries for what is known as a “Body Bag Game.”
