Lets see:
Chance to extend the game ...and win
Chance to stop the 3 week long streak of looking like garbage on TV - make it 4 next week!!
Chance (Slim) to win the MAC West
Chance for a Bowl invite
And Timmy calls for the 2 pt. conv. - A RUN OFF RT...……………04-jawdrop03-puke
BRILLIANT!!! Man no one saw that coming.
Hopefully this shortened his HC career at WMU
PS- I'm not knocking the risk BUT the call.

I blame Lester for both the risk AND the call.

I'm sorry, I liked our odds to OUTSCORE them in overtime without going for 2 until the 3rd overtime. Yes, our defense played poorly but I liked our chances of WMU moving the ball against there chance of moving the ball.

The call was horrid. I would have rolled Eleby out to the far side and gave him the option to run or pass for the two point conversion.

I was all-in on Lester's decision to go for 2 at the time. But in retrospect - and not just because it failed - I've started to shift toward your point of view.

But in the end, it doesn't matter.

Even after our revenge win at CMU, we all figured we weren't gonna run the MAC table. Our 6-2 record always felt like a house of cards. But I didn't expect to get blown off our field by Toledo and Ohio (45-zip at halftime?) and losing to a bad 3-win team.

I look at it this way. WMU has first possession on the next series. We have up to 12 opportunities to get the ball in the endzone if we use both first downs and all four downs every single time. I would have preferred Lester "burn it all" to get into the endzone on the next series versus going for 2.

You are absolutely right -- we were a house of cards. The Toledo and Ohio games were pathetic. However, somehow this left a worse taste in my mouth -- I was absolutely furious not having an opportunity to at least play NIU in our house for the West. Now, there is nothing to play for -- assuming NIU will hand it to us in an empty Waldo stadium.

The sad part is that we were “At the next level” two short years ago. The best G5 program in the country, Game Day and Cotton Bowl. We could have hired a coach with demonstrated success. Instead we hired a coach the still had training wheels on his bike.

We often forget WMU HC salary is $350K, the balance is private donation = $800K. Would have cost WMU over $1.5m to get "National" level coach. Problem is that level isn't coming to WMU. Western Kentucky is considering firing their coach even though he has only two season. They would owe him about $1.5m buyout which they are hoping to scrape up from outgoing coach buyout fees from other sports. Including womens BB buyout from ACC school. Looks easy on paper. I do agree $800k for unproven HC is bad decision. They could have offered incentives to get him $800K, my hunch is private donors had the final say on the $800K total and WMU stuck with $350k offer.

I'll bet if KB asked, there might be more than one of our big money donors that would be more than willing to cover his buyout.
