What The Old Gray Lady Didn't Want You to See... The TV Failure
As wonderful as it was to hear David Crane make the momentous call that UAB is division champs in walk-off fashion, I really would have liked to see it. I bet beIN sport's advertisers also didn't appreciate their channel being reduced to worthless for an hour or so. Props to David Crane for pulling out that cell phone and getting through the 3rd and most of the 4th quarter without backup. Surprised we didn't see live amateur cell phone video of the game on beIN. Was the cell phone reception so bad out there that someone couldn't rig up few mobile hot spots and stream a couple different video feeds?

So what happened? Cables chewed? Antenna snap? And I imagine that whoever shows the CUSA Championship game also would like to know what happened.

What was the ruling on the blocked punt that crossed over the line of scrimmage? The BEiN studio crew told us it did not matter who touched the ball. They lost all credibility with that comment. The TV video was lost soon after that play. THe BEIN announcers did audio play by play like we could see it with no TV video.
The TV video came back for maybe one play near the end of third quarter and then the video was lost again. That was end of our BEIN TV experience. What happened?

USM touched the ball first. Had to have. Otherwise we would have made another serious mistake.

From what I understand, Internet went out at Legion Field. Bein was not at fault.

On the punt, the kicking team cannot return or recover a blocked kick. Once one of their players touched it the play was dead and it was our ball at that spot.

Once ball crossed the line of scrimmage it's just like a normal punt. The ball was dead if USM touched it. It was a muff and free ball if UAB touched it.
The REFS had to say USM touched it first because it looked like USM recovered.
But video looked like it hit the UAB player's knee first. Obviously, that was what the USM coach thought too and he called time out.
However, The BEIN video was really bad quality. So not sure what happened?

I watched one game on BeIn, and gave it up for David Crane after that.

There was a Southern Miss player on the ground who batted the ball with his hand, it then bounced and hit off of a UAB players knee before USM recovered. The play was dead as soon as it touched the USM players hand

This may be a dumb question. But is there no back up to Internet especially for radio and TV at Legion Field? No way this happens to ABC, ESPN or CBS. BEIN is just incompetent in my book.

There are wires dangling from the press box that have been there all year.

I'm hoping there is CUSA video of the highlights from the game.

BEIN may not be bringing a satellite communications dish, or a big enough one, for their uplink.

Pathetic. I recorded the game so I could watch Sunday and almost the whole second half and OT wasn’t shown. Thankfully our deal with BeIN ends this season.

A mediocre or better production crew doesn't depend on any existing infrastructure in a building that parts of are 100 years old and hasn't been updated in 30 years.

Radio was also out for a while and relied on cell phones to do the broadcast for a quarter. I'd like to know what it was that broke everybody down, and what a real broadcast like ESPN would have done?

The best TV failure that cost millions. The XFL I believe it was there second week and they still had good ratings. They had a great game and the signal failed. They scrambled to a game and it was a blow out. The league went down from there.

The Problem: The generators failed. Why did they fail because they ran out of diesel fuel. It's on the 30 for 30.

Here is the article:

Also will this be the last year having BeIn Sports? This past game will sadly be forgotten if you haven't seen it personally. 03-weeping

I would have thought that UAB athletics would be recording the game outside of whatever ESPN, beIN, or anyone else did.
