Northwestern clinches B1G West
Wasn’t quite Alabama/Georgia officializing their meeting a month before, but NU rubberstamps its spot in Indy with 3 weeks to spare.

Northwestern is 13-1 in their last 14 B1G games with the Boat Rowers and Fighting Lovies on deck. Only loss a 20-17 nailbiter to Michigan after jumping out to a 17-0 lead.

An astonishing turn of events following September losses to Duke and Akron, the latter of which yielded a 36-7 2nd half run to the Zips.

Northwestern is the first team to go winless in nonconference play and reach its conference championship game.

Amazing.

And to think some people want a system where Northwestern would get in the playoff if they win that game. Crazy.

Yes, I do - but ONLY if they win the conference championship. OOC schedules vary too much; guaranteeing a spot for all conference champs essentially throws out all OOC games except for at-large bids - it makes those game tie-breakers, not season-breakers.

Even stranger some people would prefer a system where a team finishing behind them could be selected to the playoff.

I’m perfectly fine with those OOC games being season-breakers when you lose three of them.
