RE: UAB game
Those who support Hop, just watch the 1m clips when he is interviewed immediately following a game. "I couldn't be happier about how the team played. They battled. I'm so proud of this team." This is with a semi-comma response. This is after his team just lost and in some cases lost bad to a bad team.

The O-line has gotten worse, not improved. Sure we have a young team, but I don't see this O-line being any better next season, since they are just as bad after 9 games. Hopefully these coaches (some new) are addressing this.

It is hard for me to bash Jack or Tate for their play when having to play behind this O-line. Same for our RBs.

We have a talented team, but our coaches aren't good enough to figure out who's a #1 and who's a #2.

i listened to his post game interview right after the game and these types of comments struck me the most. i wasn't even sure how to react to them. on one hand, i guess hes keeping things positive. but on the other....he sounds like he is coddling the team / players and content with things. id like to hear him say how they need to improve on some things and take some accountability for these losses. hell, say they need to work on clock management as a staff and figure out a way to protect the QB and open up some running lanes. all he said was how hard they battle. that's nice and all, but i don't really give a ****. every player on every team is suppose to "battle" every play. say that they, as a staff, have to do better and they arent content with losing close games to good teams. he sounds more concerned with patting the backs of the the kids on the team than the direction of the program.

He is too nice a guy to be successful as a FBS coach. I expect at the end of the season he is going to make a lot of excuses for Dawson.

If Hop can get a solid OC and who is also a really good recruiter, he'd be okay. But, not being able to fire people on his staff that deserve to be let go will be why he fails and takes down our FB program in the process.

Thrillsville, indeed

I’ll bet he doesn’t post this crap on his grand-fathered-in sec losers board. I really am having a hard time being a USM fan at the moment but those on here that say “oh bdr is a great guy and cares a lot about USM” can kiss my hairy backside. He’s a sick little troll with to much time on his hands. That is all.

Where has this RF been? I agree with this one whole heartily. Needs to point out what needs to be improved on and what’s not acceptable. Chew some tail, coaches and players. He does need to keep it positive though. There’s a lot of young players on this team. They need positivity along with the asss chewing.

Or better yet, you can give to the "Black Bear" Club, and not make a difference, since OP hasn't done sh!t since 1963, the beginning of the James Meredith curse.04-cheers

Um no. He would've turned the ball over 3 or more times and UAB would've blown us out.

The reason the results have been better with Whatley is that, despite struggles, he generally limits turnovers.

Whatley hasn't been great, but he's a true frosh who has a terrible offensive line, limited talent at running back, and a dopey coordinator. He's making due with what he's been given. He'd be fine with a little bit of creativity in the gameplan and the starting offensive line at Millsaps

One could say Abraham would be fine with a more creative gameplan and O-line as well.

Looking at these kid's high school stats, Abraham has the most upside. And I know Whatley got injured his sr year, but he wasn't really killing it.

We'll be a better team with Abraham at QB behind a good O-line than Whatley. That said, we need a good O-line.

LaTech didn't like Abraham because he's not mobile. With our young receiving group, next year they'll be a lot better as well. The missing piece is a good O-line. Fix that and we'll beat everyone in this conference by 14+ next season.

That is very misleading. Looking at past USM QB stats and everyone sees Austin Davis had more upside than Brett Favre but we all know how that worked out at the next level.

Now you can't bash Ellis Johnson and then make a comment about Ricky Lloyd's performance that same season. I know you didn't bash EJ here, but I don't think anyone on this board hasn't done so in the past.

Normally I don't put too much stock in stats, but Abraham vs Whatley are very lopsided. That said, I don't really have a preference. But, can't say Whatley would do better with good o-line without saying Abraham would do better as well. That was really my point.

Whatley has kept us in games because he doesn't turn the ball over.

Abraham took us out of games because he turned the ball over.

Yes...Abraham's passing stats are better but the turnovers are more important. There isn't a better indicator of a football game's outcome than the turnover battle. I really don't care that Abraham threw for more yards.....our points per game weren't any higher.
