Probably 60% of the population couldn't just pick up and rent an apartment in DC

Stolen from the internet:
She knows how to pay for 'free college' and 'free healthcare', but doesn't know how to pay for an apartment with months notice.

I don't think this is a winning argument for the right. It makes her MORE sympathetic, not less.

She won't have any trouble whatsoever funding an apartment because she absolutely WILL get a 'payday loan' likely at a VERY low rate from the DNC or any bank in the country... if that is what she needs...

Which only makes me think it possible that this story is being floated by the left... knowing that some on the right (some living just as much if not more, paycheck to paycheck) will run with it and try and make jokes... insulting millions of honest, hardworking Americans who live that way.

The argument SHOULD be that now that she's making 175k/yr, she should be able to pay off her student loans etc... and NOT walk away a 'wealthy person' from public service. Making money AFTER her public service on the speaking circuit or as an adviser... not a problem.... but she should be the poster child on someone doing a public service (for a fair wage) and then returning to private life.... and NOT becoming a millionaire on the public dole.

Strongly encourage her to 'walk the talk' of 'social democracy'.

I wonder if she will turn away some of her salary once it starts? I mean, you don't need 187K to live on - especially as a single woman. I imagine she can probably live on half of that so she should be giving the rest to organizations who want to give it away - right? In true socialism isn't everybody supposed to get paid the same and have the same stuff?

She should lead by example - no?

"I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment? Those little things are very real," Ocasio-Cortez told the newspaper.

Seems to me that apartments in the "poor" areas aren't any more expensive that they are in most other urban areas. I mean, C'mon Alexandria, those are EXACTLY the type of people you claim to care about and want to "help" with your socialist programs. Makes sense you'd want to live among them to get a first hand look at their experiences.....

Or is this once again..... Socialism is for "the people", not the Socialist.

I don't know what her bank account looks like, but it is certainly feasible. I know I wouldn't be able to afford an apartment in DC on top of my mortgage and I make good money. This is a dumb line of attack. Now I am sure the DNC, her campain, or a lobbyist or special interest group will be putting her up in a hotel or apartment and I highly doubt it will be an issue, but she wins on the optics here.

Quits her job and can't afford an apartment? Has no idea how expensive it will be?

It just screams, "I'm clueless and incompetent." I don't think it generates sympathy except among the people who would vote for her no matter what.

Would you be dumb enough to apply for a job that required relocation, when you couldn’t afford to relocate?

And if you were, do you think having SIX MONTHS preparation time until you needed to move, you could make arrangements or scrounge together enough money to make rent until your salary kicked in?

She wins on what "optics"? She comes off as a whiner at best? Anybody with a pulse knows she is pandering to the sympathy vote..... she is not going to be living in a cardboard box for 3 months and she will not be living off of Ramen noodles either. She played "that card" for what purpose exactly?

For the next three months she will be living off of someone who is giving her free stuff - she will spin this into "see handouts work...it worked for me..... I have lived your life and I will work to make sure you get free stuff".........

She is going to get laughed out of the chamber before the spring session is over..........

Well, this is a little different situation. We all know NO ONE goes to DC as an elected official for the actual govt paycheck.

RE: AOC Can't Afford An Apartment In D.C. Before Her Government Paycheck Kicks In
Quote:Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claims that she's unable to afford an apartment in Washington, D.C., until she begins collecting her congressional salary, but records show she has more than enough to plunk down on an apartment in the U.S. capital.

The 29-year-old congresswoman-elect rose to fame after she defeated 10-term incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in New York's June primary and was elected to represent the state’s 14th Congressional District last week.

After months of fostering an image as a working-class Democrat, Ocasio-Cortez told the New York Times shortly after her Nov. 6 general election win that she won’t be able to afford an apartment in the Washington, D.C., area until her new $174,000-a-year salary kicks in next year. The median rent in D.C. is $2,700, according to real estate website Zillow.

“I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment? Those little things are very real,” Ocasio-Cortez told The New York Times.

This puts the socialist Democrat well above most American households, whose median checking account balance is $3,400, according to the latest Federal Reserve survey in 2016. Among Millennials, the median balance is about $1,400.

This also means that for her not to afford an apartment in Washington, she should have depleted all her savings – as potentially ranging up to $50,000 – in just three months when she wasn’t receiving any income.

Ocasio-Cortez didn’t earn any income up until August, when she began collecting a salary from the campaign, an option many political candidates take as they have to quit their day job for campaigning.

She has taken $6,200 in salary from her campaign coffers since August. Her most recent check was for $1,288.96 in mid-October, just weeks before Election Day.

Ocasio-Cortez has since backtracked from the thrust of the issue, tweeting that her apartment situation is being sorted out and she’s “working it out.”

The Ocasio-Cortez campaign didn’t respond to repeated Fox News inquiries for this article.
