RE: Rice vs. Penn at the Palestra
Pretty rough half for the freshmen and yet we're only down 2. Murphy looked really raw in his brief cameo. A couple plays designed for him to shoot off a screen and looked like he panicked when the shot wasn't there. 5 TOs combined for Mullins and Moore, Peterson not getting any breathing room. Did think QMB gave us some good minutes.

By my count we gave up 17 points in the first 7 minutes of the half playing zone, 20 points the next 13 minutes playing man. All in all a pretty good defensive performance.

Rob is legitimately a changed player. Never gonna blow by his guy his strength and craftiness plays now that he's proving he can shoot. Also shut down AJ Brodeur (considered one of the best Ivy bigs) twice.

Even though Rice has 9 TO’s to 6 for Penn, we have an 8-4 lead in points off turnovers.

RE: Rice vs. Penn at the Palestra
Two observations to start the half:

- Tim is -14 in 9 minutes played. I think he can be a good player in a certain role, but I'd rather see us start a smaller lineup with Rob
- I'm more and more convinced that Josh should be our primary ball handler. Ako just feels more like an off guard and doesn't create his own shot as well

I'd add that our defense could be a little tighter....

After what we saw last year, I'm just glad there's some incremental improvement

Fouls starting to hurt. Brodoeur is a handful.

Seems like some of our players actively don't want to take the shot.

Edit: No longer a majority.

70-54 Penn, TO 8:10 left.

Playing very sloppy.

44-36 points in the paint Penn...seems worse than that.

Mullins might end up being one of the best defenders Rice has ever had. He has Marcus Evans' ballhawk instincts paired with really good feet and really good length.

Great to hear this kind of observation about defense, in addition to the offensive observations (wait, that didn't come out the way I meant it, but you capish?)

Tiki, how much is ref's cookin' and how much has been more legit? Has it been evenly called?

RE: Rice vs. Penn at the Palestra
I think it’s been pretty evenly called.

They’ve given Rice a few too.

Overall, not a terrible effort but we didn’t shoot particularly well in the second half. We also seemingly got killed on the glass in 2nd half.

It has been called pretty well..it’s just that before the call is made the Penn players have their arms up like “against me” or “I was fouled”.

RE: Rice vs. Penn at the Palestra
Can’t give up 23 pts from the line. 23-28 for Penn. 2nd half just couldn’t stop them on the inside. Still over all a lot to like. Tough night for Peterson and Adams a combined 5-19 from the field. Penn 59% from the field in the 2nd half.
