Not a pretty start but saw positives
Beat Southeastern OK St. 101 - 92 in OT.... I know sounds bad but SEOK shot 47 three point attempts and made a good batch of them. Which broke the record at the JSC for most attempted and made I believe.

Positives:
Nowell is legit, 34 points and 8 assists for a 5 foot 8 inch freshman on opening night!
Bankston, Lottie, and Tucker are solid starters with all 3 in double-digit points.
We play good defense when we play pressure ball perfectly and caused a lot of TOs.
So far, our offense was way better than anytime last year. Over 50% shooting.

Negatives:
We gave up too many offense rebounds which kept SEOK in the game. Need a big man to step up.
Maric didn't play as much as we needed to. It was a coaching decision according to Coach Jordan. They wanted all fast players in the second half.

I'm really excited about Nikoli's potential. I think he didn't play much after starting the game, because he was having trouble getting out on the 3 pt. shooters. Basically, SE OK lived and, eventually, died by the 3. They broke the record for 3's attempted at the Jack by 14. It was probably a good coaching move to take him out in this game. He will play plenty as the season progress. Actually, a freshman getting 14 minutes of playing time in his first game is not too shabby. But, it might be the least minutes he plays all season.

RE: Not a pretty start but saw positives
I've eaten a football field of pizza since the last time a Trojan team scored 100+. Offensive production promising.
You think we can resurrect that old pizza promotion for games that the Trojans score 100 points?

Rebounding and FT% is horrible. No excuses for that. If they rebounded better and made more at the stripe you'd have that 20 point victory you would expect. Must improve or Trojans will get their asses handed to them in D1 play.

RE: Not a pretty start but saw positives
Well, we came back, and that is a positive. Obviously, getting to see that Nowell is the real deal is encouraging.

But we barely held our own on the boards with a D2 team, and from the highlight film it looked like defense was optional for both teams. I don't care how high-octane our offense is, we will not excel without D and boards. And unless DW is a whip-cracker, those won't happen. Someone is going to have to be the bad guy. We can't stay on NYC playgrounds all the time. Maric looked pretty good; glad we have him.

Definitely some things to work on; but also some things to work with.

I’ve been to a couple of practices and Coach walker is hands on with that defense and doesn’t hold back when correcting defensive errors in practice

That's good. D has always been the LR hallmark.

First, se oklahoma state is a good team and well coached. Those guys all played together last year and won 15 games which is why they are picked to contend for the conference title this year. As a team they shot 37 percent from behind the arc.
Second, they punched us in the mouth and we fought back and got the win. That would not have happened last year.
Third, when was the last time we scored more than 100?
Fourth, we made adjustments at halftime that got the job done. Tried to keep them out of the paint first half and we could not get back out to defend the 3. Second half we went to matchup zone. We pressured the ball full court, we pressed and we trapped which helped keep disrupted their offense. And 55, who is good but slowness stayed on the bench so we could up the defensive pressure. I dont remember seeing those kind of adjustments at half last year.
