In a reversal of their usual script, the Spartans had a blistering offensive night shooting 19 of 33 for 56.7% from 3 and scoring 91 points. But they were failed by their usual stalwart defense and rebounding as Will Wade’s talented LSU team piled up 97 points and killed them on the boards 34 to 18 to win by 6 points.
There were some amazing, and encouraging, individual performances as 6-8 Junior Kyrin Galloway had a stunning career night, looking like a completely different player as he hit 32 (yes, 32) points on 8-10 from 3 (where did THAT come from? He was 13-46 from 3 last year), 12-14 overall and 4 blocks in 33 minutes.
Soph Isaiah Miller also hit 2-5 from 3 for 13 points, 1 more 3 than he hit all last year to go with 6 assists and no turnovers.
Unfortunately James Dickey struggled a bit against the big physical LSU guys with 1 rebound, 1 block and 8 points in 33 minutes. And new 6-9 250 bigs Eric Hamilton and Mohammed Abdulsalam continued to look lost totaling 15 minutes, 2 rebounds and 4 points combined.
New Rs-Fr guard Kaleb Hunter and vet Malik Massey also struggled.
Still, not a bad showing against a team that Will Wade is building back to high levels.

Samford looked impressive at home beating Jacksonville State (ranked 3rd in the OVC by Blue Ribbon) 92-72 as Josh Sharkey had a career night with 22 points, 10 assists and 8 steals (almost a triple double), 7 foot 240 USF transfer Ruben Guerrero had 14 points, 6-5 200 Alabama transfer Brandon Austin got 13 points and 7 rebounds and 6-8 200 Freshman ‘junkyard dog’ Robert Allen got 11 points.

Mercer crushed hapless Piedmont 105-52. It will be interesting to see them match up against Georgia State Tuesday.
With Furman's remarkable road upset over Loyola, not a bad night for the SoCon.
