WBB Game 2: NSU (0-1) vs ODU (1-0) Home Opener
The ODU Monarchs will play the NSU Spartans at the Ted in ODU's home opener. This will be the 18th meeting between the cross town rivals. ODU is currently riding a 12 game game win streak against NSU. The last time that these two teams meet was three years ago. Interestingly enough, only two active players were at that game. For NSU senior Alexys Long who had 3 points in 19 minutes of play and ODU"s Taylor Edwards who saw the court for three minutes of action. (no points) ODU won 65-54.

It's all about recruiting in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama is Shelton State Comunity College. In 2016-17 the Bucs team posted a 34-3 record and placed third at the National Junior College Altheltic Association. Five members from Shelton State CC will be at the game. For NSU, redshirt Junior Kendrea Dawkins, junior Dana Echols, and senior Raven Russeell. For ODU, Maggie Robinson and Ashley Scott were on that team as well. Maybe they will be on the court at one time together...

Last year the Spartans went 18-11, including 11-5 in the MEAC. That is quite a turn around for head coach Larry Vickers who inherited an 0-20 squad midway through the 2015-16 season. Of course last year they also had first team All-MEAC Kayla Roberts who did everything for the team. She graduated and has left a ig hole to fill.

This year Vickers is changing the scheme of his team. This year the Spartans are using a four guard offense. NSU was known as a top rate blocking team, but they are now trying to pressure on the ball. Look for steals, and don't be surprised if this game turns into a track meet.

NSU. 0-1
@ Mississippi L 42-60 RPI: 38 (which at this stage means nothing)

Spartans Starting Line Up
#13 Alexys Long G/F 5'11" Sr 10.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 0.0 apg, 30.0 FG%, 33.3 3P%, 1.000 FT%, 34.0 mpg
#44 Khadedra Croker 6'3" F/C Rd Sr 7.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 33.3 FG%, 83.3 FT%, 25.0 mpg
#15 Dana Echols G 5'5" Jr 6.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 60.0 FG%, 33.0 mpg
#1 Raven Russell G 5'10" Sr 5.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.0 spg, 28.6 FG%, 25.0 FT%, 28.0 mpg
#10 La'Deja James G 5'8" RdJr 5.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.0 spg, 22.2 FG%, 50.0 FT%, 26.0 mpg
Key Bench
#4 Kendrea Dawkins F 6'1" Rd Jr 7.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.0 spg, 40.0 FG%, 33.3 3P%, 1.000 FT%, 21.0 mpg

NSU has tons of local talent. #2 Jr Danyael Goodhope is from Princess Anne. HS. James is from First Colonial HS. Croker is from Suffolk's King's Fork HS. And redshirt Senior Chanette HIcks is from Maury HS.

We have an ODU team scored a record high 83 points against Campbell. The most points scored under coach Nikki. Our win equals all of our road wins from last season. Freshman Ajah Wayne scored 22 points in 29 minutes of action. Which is an amazing opening. It's going to be a learning season for the team, but you have to like the potential.

This should be a fun game. Hopefully ODU can make 13 in a row over NSU. But I think it will be entertaining for the fans. Let's have more ODU colors in the stands than green and gold! Come on fans, it's Friday night!

I wouldn't miss it. Coach Nikki is implementing a very entertaining style of play. If nothing else, they will not be boring.

Giving away these hats at the alumni table for filling out a survey. I think they're pretty sweet. Understated look. I can't get down with the flat brim.

This will be my first women's game since we knocked off UCONN in the Fieldhouse in the 90s.

I was at that game and have the game ball!!!! Loudest game I have EVER been at. The field house was a dump, but holy cow it rocked when people got into the game.

Ajah Wayne is a player. ODU is missing a true point guard and has no offensive punch in the front court. This next recruiting class is critical if they are going to build around Wayne.

The team definitely plays hard and has dramatically improved on the defensive end.

Maybe Register (who is out for the season) is the true PG you're looking for... but I agree, Wayne is a beast and we need some more low post scoring. I was at the game last night and saw that Register was on crutches with braces on both knees (yikes!)
