I’m afraid a lot of it is legal. Can’t report injuries, nervous about reporting why players are being suspended. The laws are there and the universities, coaches don’t want to make any mistakes. I also think they like to hide behind them since discussing these things aren’t much fun.

I think you ate absolutely right burden. I also think some of what you mentioned are good things. I don’t need to know why a player is suspended, for instance. My frustration lies in how sports are covered today. Sadly, if I’m looking for newspapers (print or digital) to devote space and money to coverage of HS and local college sports, I shouldn’t hold my breath.

As for my 1350 comment. That was related to Dunn and Linder on the afternoon drive home. Not play by play.

On Cleveland.com sports today, you really have to dig to find the stories about the two college basketball games played IN CLEVELAND last night. The whole first page is nothing but Browns-Cavs-Indians-Buckeyes. You have to scroll to the bottom to a "more sports" link, then scroll down THAT page to find the one story about both games.

That sums it up nicely, axeme. Browns-Cavs-Indians-Buckeyes. That's what is served up in huge doses. Even key high school games get priority over the local college teams.

The writers get rated on how many hits they get on their stories. The fifteen people on this web site who care about Kent basketball won’t impress them. Terry Pluto has written 3 books lately. One on the great Indians teams of the 90’s, one on the Cavs championship season and one on the 20 years of Browns misery. Guess which one has sold the best!! Pro football is king. In the past if newspapers knew precisely which stories were being read the same thing would have happened. The wonders of technology? Technology gives you more choice unfortunately you have to dig to find it and pay for it when you do.

same theme.. today's Ohio.com (ABJ) Kent State article was a reprint of the Allan Moff article from Record Courier.

The new ownership at the Beacon/Ohio.com is not good. Many articles are either reprints of the Record Courier or Canton Repository. Their Indians beat reporter no longer goes on the road. They run AP stories for those games.
I’m surprised it’s still a seven day paper (I wonder how long).

I can't help if less than elite sports programs would be better covered under the "Patreon" model where someone does it with the direct financial support of the community similar to what you see in many YouTube Channels now.

But, basically, newspapers are dead.
