Kent State @ Cleveland State
The Golden Flashes open the 2018-2019 season at Wolstein Center against the CSU Vikings as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. The Vikings have one game under their belt, an 83-63 loss to Davidson. I used to follow CSU pretty closely. I do not anymore, but I can say this does not appear to be one of their more talented rosters in the last decade.

They seem to have some size, but their four tallest guys are freshman or sophomores. 6'8 250 pound Depaul transfer Algevon Eichelberger looks like a load. But for all I know he could be sitting out the year.

I always enjoy the beginning of the KSU basketball season. It is fun to get an early glimpse of the team. I laugh when I think about how there is always a guy that starts the first 3 or 4 games only to be out of the rotation by the holidays. The worst part of this season is that now that 1350 canned Linder and Dunn, there is really nobody talking MAC basketball except all you fine folks. Oh well.

burden....take this to your bank!

I am not sure. Somewhere on the off-season thread I seem to remember he got himself in a little trouble. If that’s the case let’s hope it is the obligatory one or two game slap on the wrist.

The lack of news & transparency with the team is somewhat frustrating.

Assuming the best, he should be severely punished by not starting tonight. Having to come off the bench at the first media timeout will certainly teach him the appropriate lesson!

Life has to be great for Nate Oats right now. The clear cut favorite in the MAC, just knocked off the #13 team, and with the looming cbb investigation a lot of teams could end up ineligible for the tournament and/or some high profile coaching jobs could open up.

The early rotation surprise. Duling not starting and Frederick off the bench before him.

Avery looks to be shooting with a lot of confidence. I liked the minutes from Duling in the first half too. Wasn't forcing his offense.

ESPN 3 broadcast isn’t great, so it’s hard to tell, but was that Jaylin Walker limping into the locker room behind the coaches? Again, kinda looked like it could be him, but couldn’t tell because the camera feed isn’t clear.

I haven't noticed Harris in the first half. I miss the days when there was actually coverage of this team so we knew what was going on with players.

RE: Kent State @ Cleveland State
Probably lucky to escape with a win. CSU's free throw shooting sure helped. CSU doesn't have much size so our lack of size hasn't been tested yet. We were very active on defense but fouled too much. That will be interesting to see if that's a trend.

It will also be really interesting to see what happens when Walker plays. I really think Williams is a good player. He does a lot of things really well. However playing him Avery and Walker at the same time seems almost impossible especially with no size inside. The logical answer would be to keep two of them on the floor at all times and try to get each at least 25 minutes. But I don't know how Walker would respond to not starting.

I'm a little perplexed that a prize recruit like Duling only played 14 minutes. This is his second season.

I know I am beating a dead horse when I say this, but the coverage of a program like KSU is half baked to say it nicely. The easy way out of “covering” a team on the twitter or instant gram appeals to the illiterate and to those who don’t want to pay someone for real coverage. It’s a shame because due to a lack of any thoughtful season preview my current interest is at an all time low.

Now I’m gonna read the box score.

I don't think it's just us. I noticed Eric Hester, the big time transfer Akron got from Florida, didn't show up in their boxscore the first two games. Then I checked their roster and he isn't on it. Couldn't find anything online about what happened so I went to the zips board and all I could find was their fans wondering what happened and rumors maybe he is inelgible until January.

Coverage of Kent State athletics was never that good, and the athletic department was never very good at putting out information. But it is probably worse than ever. Lot of it has to do with that 800 pound gorilla in Columbus dominating so much of newspaper and airwave space even as far north as Cleveland.
