No, the Toledo team came out of their locker room and instead of heading to their bench, huddled and started yelling at the NIU bench (where players were hanging around for the most part), they were aggressive, things got hot, eventually a few NIU players headed over to the maybe 25 Toledo players? Lots of shouting, nothing more than that. Boys will be boys.
both teams knew it was a big game.
If this happened, it's not surprising to me. There is a lack of discipline on this team. The penalties, defenders out of position and not wrapping up on tackles, stupid penalties that keep happening all season long, etc. It's also completely unacceptable. I'm embarrassed that Toledo did that. Just go out on the field and do the talking on the field with your play......not doing foolish things like that.
Boys might be boys, but that's a complete lack of discipline. As another Rocket fan pointed out, this team is reminiscent of some of Amstutz's teams.
It was odd.
What's the deal with the lineman downfield, there were 3 or 4 of those penalties? I know it can happen in that type of offense, but not sure I've ever see that many of them.

I saw it on TV and could not believe what I was seeing. As Toledo was coming out of the locker room, they went over to the NIU bench and was aggressively trash talking. They were getting closer and it looked like a fight was going to break out before the game even started. Never saw such classless behavior like this before.
Miami (FLA) used to do that kind of stuff all the time.
The U was able to back it up.

That's not how it happened at all. NIU lined up to do their entrance rocking and Illini came through and disrupted it purposely. NIU did not instigate it.
Interesting. I was at that game but from where I was seating (opposite side of the field), I just recall a lot of pushing. Never knew the Illini interrupted our intro.
I remember that game being kind of chippy, and that we missed a few opportunities

Right on. Desmond has helped niu get publicity to get to the orange bowl and lynch noticed for the heisman. He should be an honorary huskie.

Desmond also picked NIU to beat Iowa, among other P5 bouts. Him and Amanda are my 2 favorite non-Huskies.

They were running RPO's to try and slow the pass rush down. Basically, it means the O line is run blocking on every play even if it ends up being a pass. The refs will give you three yards (sometimes they give even more). The refs Wednesday were giving three and no more.

After being at the game, I watched some of the replay last night. The two plays I saw weren't even close. One was about 7 yards and on the other the poor OL was 9 yards downfield.
Good run blocking though...

When you're running RPO's you are only supposed to go up a couple of yards and hold your ground. The RB's going to be past you at that point if you do run the ball anyway. Also, I believe the rule book now says 4 yards instead of 3. But yeah, on the penalties they were usually way down field. One play the OL guy went straight out to a linebacker as there was no DL near him to block first.
