Rutgers is a 40 point underdog to Michigan Saturday at home
Have we ever seen a P5 program be that much of a home dog?

So, playing on the road, Michigan is favored over Rutgers by 7 more points than they were favored in that famous game they lost at home to App State 11 years ago.
Not as odd as it sounds, because the best FCS teams are better than more than half of FBS, and even more so early in the season when roster depth isn't as much of an issue.

K-State before Snyder probably would've been against Oklahoma or Nebraska.

Northwestern before their lift in the 90’s comes to mind. Iowa State back in the 80’s and 90’s had to have some bad lines when facing those Nebraska teams. Duke and Wake Forest against those 90’s FSU teams had to draw some chuckles.
Rutgers probably had some bad lines there against those Miami squads of the 90’s. Temple probably worse, but this is not the first time Rutgers was in over their head. Personally, I don’t think Michigan hits it; they just have a sweet spot for beating up on Penn State. It’s not worth it smashing Rutgers; it’s no secret they’re bad. The line is its own insult.

In theory that line is probably right.
In reality, I doubt Michigan's starters will be playing after halftime.
No need risking injury in the second half of a blowout.
No need to kick an opposing program in the rocks when they're already on the ground.
(I'm sure he would make an exception for tOSU though......)

We have no home field advantage. If there are 10K Rutgers fans in the stadium (though I will be one of them), that will be a lot.
Thanks to Chris Ash, I have the best seats in the house!

OU and Nebraska were often 50+ point favorites against lower-rung Big 8 teams in the 80's. For example, in 1987, OU was a 57.5 point favorite at Kansas State, and a 54 point favorite at Kansas. They covered at KU (71-10), but only beat K-State 59-10. In addition, they covered a 45.5 point spread at Iowa State (56-3). 1987 Nebraska covered a 52 point spread at home against Kansas State.
OU and Nebraska were dominant in that era, for sure. But, the bottom of the Big 8 was often dreadfully bad. The dynasties of both schools were built on the backs of the likes of Kansas State and Iowa State.
