Rockhead
For those that remember Devon "Rockhead" Johnson, the starting RB for Marshall during their 2014 13-1 season, he has passed at age 25. Unconfirmed cause at this time, but it appears to be an overdose. He messed up his back pretty bad while here and that issue kept him from sticking with the Panthers. If I had to speculate, I would guess that the pain medication led to an addiction.

It's a really sad thing because he was not only a great competitor on the field, but was a top quality guy off it. Never an ounce of trouble and a team leader with community outreach.

Sorry to hear that and thoughts go out to his family, I was really rooting for him when he was UDFA trying to make the team for Panthers.

Man, that is awful news. I thought for sure he'd be a star in the NFL. MT could not stop him. I'm sure not playing football had a big toll on him, as well.

An amazing athlete. I remember watching him run over our linbackers in 2014 the first time we played the Herd!

RIP Rockhead!

RE: Rockhead
Oh, this is terrible. So young at age 25. He had so much life still ahead of him.

Devon Johnson was a heck of a runner. He only played sparingly against LA Tech in the 2014 CUSA championship game (I think he had an injury), which Marshall won at home, 26-23. But Johnson rushed 4 times for 34 yards in that game, averaging 8.5 yds per carry. Tech's defenders just couldn't bring him down. Johnson was a man amongst boys.

WOW! He was unstoppable at Marshall but I do remember that injury slowing him down. I think he would have been a great NFL player if that hadn't happened. Dealing with backpain from an injury like that can be unbearable, sad that may have led to his passing.

Agree, he was best back I had seen in Cusa in a long time. He was unstoppable at times. Marshall for many years had some crazy good talent. I remember when a good undefeated ecu team rolled into Marshall and got their butts kicked big time.
