What is the Wofford method of getting majors to travel to their gym?
Wofford hosts UNC as part of a 2-for-1 (they upset the Heels in Chapel Hill last year). The played South Carolina there a year or two ago and Georgia Tech has the return trip for a 2-for-1 coming. It's a tiny college and a tiny gym.
So, is there a donor who is funding these or do they have a AD with pull?

#1 - Open a new building. That is a big part of the method. South Carolina was the first game in the new building at Wofford. South Carolina was supposed to be the first game in Timmons Arena at Furman when it was new. (The building was a bit late in completion and SC played a little later in the year.) North Carolina will be the opener for Elon's new building in a couple of days.
#2 -Have a superstar potential recruit you want to impress. UNC was recruiting Zion Williamson from Spartanburg. Playing a game in Zion's hometown may have been a recruiting lure for him.
#3 - Be buddies with the coach. Wofford's Mike Young has been around awhile. Maybe he knows some guys. (I don't know if that had anything to do with it.)
If UNC, South Carolina, and Georgia Tech are making regular visits in ten years I would be shocked.

I have a feeling Jerry Richardson wrote a big check before he was exiled.

That and within the last decade, making back to back appearances twice, 2010, 11, 14, and 15. While ETSU and UTC probably have a better overall history in terms of number of NCAA and NIT bids, Wofford has made the biggest splash in the last decade. If a Power 7 team is going to give any consideration at all to being the visiting team vs a mid major team, best to try and pick a good one. If you beat them as most Power 7 schools should, it looks good on your record. If you end up getting upset, better to loose to a decent program as opposed to some below the bottom of the barrel program.

That honestly didnt have anything to do with them getting this home game.
