Radford is legit this year. That is a big win for the conference for sure.

In tonight's games:
Drexel beats Loyola MD
Hofstra beats Monmouth
Towson fell to George Washington
Delaware fell bad to Navy
W&M lost badly to ODU

Monmouth entered 0-9 with only one loss by fewer than 11 and an average margin of -19.6. Hofstra never led by more than 6, trailed late, and won 75-73 after a Wright-Foreman three-point play with 16 seconds and good defense on Monmouth's last possession. It was a bad win. Delaware was favored by 11.5 and lost by 15.

Good lord when did Monmouth become so bad? A couple of years ago they should have gotten an at large bid.

Yep. We're nearing the end of non-conference play, and the league is ranked 21st. Lowest I've seen in quite a while. The last time was 2012-13, when the league went 48-83 in non-conference and finished 22nd. JMU won the tournament that season and ended up a # 16 seed.

The only victories that could possibly be deemed "signature wins" are the following:

* JMU vs Radford (# 60 RPI): 73-66 W on Dec 4
* Northeastern neutral vs Alabama (# 82): 68-52 W on Nov 15
* Charleston vs. Rhode Island (# 88): 66-55 W on Nov 13
* Northeastern @ Harvard (# 103): 81-71 W on Nov 9
* Charleston neutral vs. Memphis (# 110): 78-75 W on Nov 25

And that's it. Zero Top 50 wins.

The remaining opportunities for quality/signature non-conference wins are these:

* Charleston @ VCU (# 30) - Dec 15
* UNCW @ Furman (# 90) - Dec 15
* Northeastern @ Vermont (# 75) - Dec 16
* Delaware @ Stony Brook (# 107) - Dec 16
* Drexel @ UCONN (# 140) - Dec 18
* UNCW @ Georgia St (# 53) - Dec 19
* Hofstra @ Stony Brook (# 107) - Dec 19
* W&M @ Virgina (# 22) - Dec 22
* Drexel vs. Temple (# 58) - Dec 22

RE: CAA Non-Conference 2018 - 2019
Meh. To me it has felt overall like it has been successful. The expected top teams (CofC and NU) have performed well. The middling teams have done just that. The bottom teams have surprised and played better than expected (DU, UD). Elon is the only team so far to me that has just performed poorly and looking like they will be in for a rough CAA season. I think after the top 2 teams it will be a jumbled mess, which is not necessarily good for RPI etc but should be a fun conference season.

Even Elon took a really good UNCG team to the buzzer recently. Seibring and Santa Ana will keep them in games come conference play. It reminds me a lot of last season, Charleston is the only team that's handled their business in non-conference so far. Every other team has question marks, If Pusica comes back 100 percent NU will be fine but wrist injuries can be tricky. JWF and Hofstra have legit talent, but I've never thought Mihalic was that impressive a as a coach. Outside of CofC, NU, and Hofstra I don't think any team is a shoo-in for a top 6 seed. Should be competitive...

Oh I have no doubt league play will be fun and highly competitive. It just sucks that the league champion will likely be rewarded with no higher than a 14 seed.

Towson won 80-76 at Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC who beat 1 seed Virginia). UMBC was favored by 6.5 and the Sagarin expected them to win by double-digits. Brian Fobbs scored 32. Dennis Tunstall scored 6 without missing a shot and had 15 rebounds. UMBC attempted 40 threes, which is higher than your team record of 39 and Hofstra's team record of 38.

Maryland has two state supported schools in Baltimore County, UMBC and Towson. In the city of Baltimore, there are two state supported HBCUs, Coppin State and Morgan State. Maryland is small geographically, but that's a lot of state schools in Baltimore and Baltimore County.

Very nice win, but of course UMBC is nothing close to the team from last season; they lost their starting backcourt to graduation. Earlier this season they lost to a bad South Dakota team and are 5-5 vs D-I overall.

Hopefully that win will look better as the season goes on and UMBC piles up a bunch of America East wins.

RE: CAA Non-Conference 2018 - 2019
The CAA moved up from # 21 to # 18 despite just 2 games so far this week. Hofstra beat a bad Manhattan team 80-50 on Monday; coupled with Towson's win over UMBC the league is now 44-50 against D-I competition.

Saturday will be big for not only us but Charleston as well. They face VCU in Richmond. The Rams are 7-3 and has solid wins over Temple (neutral court) and Shaka Smart's Texas squad (road game). They gave Virginia a good fight on the road this past Sunday as well, falling 57-49.

A lack of games gives other conferences the opportunity to fail.

How do you talk about VCU without mentioning their CAA opponent? They won 69-67 in overtime hosting Hofstra, which is the fewest Hofstra has scored. VCU has the best NET and RPI in the A10.

RE: CAA Non-Conference 2018 - 2019
Charleston got a huge win @ VCU on Saturday (83-79). Totally missed that. That's the only "Group 1" victory for the CAA this season.

Northeastern and Delaware lost tough ones to Vermont and Stony Brook, respectively.

Drexel heads to UCONN tomorrow night (Dec 18).

UConn beat Drexel by 32
