Go away. You add nothing to this board. You know nothing about NMSU, what they "love" or anything else. Nothing you fantasize about has ever come true. You even go so far as to say "Predicted it too early so I’m guilty as charged." yet your predictions have not come true. Seriously, go away.
True diversity in bringing in a viewport that is different from yours but logic based.

This board is just a snowflake board when a different logical opinion threatens you when it is intended to show your thinking is so narrow minded.

It’s not worth it to share an opinion with you and others if vindictive are constantly thrown back.

Are we done with this guy/thread yet, mods?

I guarantee there’s not too many “snowflakes” here. Nobody cares what you think and like others have pointed out, your fantasies are rubbish and you never have any evidence to support your claims.

Nobody in South Dakota cares about NMSU being in the Summit. That’s just stupid. We here, don’t GAF about UND Athletics. You’re unrealistic and don’t know what you’re talking about

I tried to keep the focus of this thread on DII move-ups. While NoDak does bring up some institutional questions, I am not sure if they belong on this thread. Another thread of what would be the ideal mix for the WAC, what types of institutions play well with others, etc. But this was to focus on the number of, potential for, and reality of the few options that exist of DII move-ups for the WAC.

Rob, you are A+ and starting this thread was a noble idea with a nice context around it. Unfortunately, we have "logical" trolls that preach to us about their "diverse" opinions. I do have a solid take away from this thread about how so few schools exist that would be good fits for the WAC. I think that was your intent and I got that factoid loud and clear.

Similar academics to new Mexico State is University of Alaska. They dropped the Fairbanks in their name. It could be all one school in the future.

So, are we still talking about "DII Schools in the potential WAC footprint without Football" here, or can the mods finally put this one out of it's misery?

I know that all you are doing is trollings, but I think that you misunderstand NMSU to a great extent. They would much rather be in a conference with like schools, but they want a western centered one. They could have stayed in the Sun Belt, but instead chose to jump to the WAC, when it was full of like institutions. I still think that eventually they will end up in the MWC or CUSA/Sun Belt reorganization and be with like institutions.

For the time being, the WAC is what it is. The overall athletics are getting better. Give UTRGV a few more years and it will have the merger figured out and be a much stronger school as well.

I had read several times that NMSU was booted out of Sun Belt, am I wrong?

Nope... Benson wanted a smaller geographic footprint for the Sun Belt. And, since NMSU (and Idaho) no longer served a purpose with some CFP committee rules changes both were ousted as partial football-only members. NMSU did apply for full membership but is was squashed before our AD could present our case.

The two changes that spelled NMSU's doom were the CFP payout system of $1-million per school allotment which they capped at 10 schools; instead of the number of schools per conference which perpetuated larger conference alignments like CUSA. And, the ability for a conference to host a Conference Championship game was dropped from 12 members to just 10 members; to appease the Big 12. Both rules changes made it unnecessary to renew either NMSU and/or Idaho's membership in the SBC; a 4-year agreement both NMSU and Idaho signed in order to have an FBS football home.

The reference above was when NMSU was in the SunBelt for the first time. They were full members and could have stayed there. But at the time, the WAC was a significantly better conference than the SunBelt and it had western teams. After NMSU joined the WAC, it fell apart when multiple WAC teams moved to the Mountain West Conference. The SunBelt then allowed NMSU to join a second time as football only for 4 years and that ended last year.

GVSU could be a nice addition if they were willing to go Pioneer football conference. Good size school decent size city fairly close to Chicago.
Far enough from the P5 schools to have their own following and decent facilities.

Oral Roberts could be a good d1 addition to partner with UMKC.
Having Cal-Baptist and Grand Canyon gives them some peers.

I don't ever see Grand Valley moving up. They are happy at the DII level, they have won multiple DII titles in football and soccer. They are extremely competitive in basketball and other Olympic sports. And most of their fan base either follows Michigan State (1 hour 24 mins away) or Michigan (2 hours 19 mins away).

RE: DII Schools in the potential WAC footprint without Football
Going back to the list on the first posting (and since we now know Metro State's answer) I'd call:
Univ. Colo.- Colo Springs (and tout how being D1 will help to elevate the perception of the school);
Univ of Western Wash (now around 16,000 students and 90 miles north of Seattle).

I might call Dallas Baptist with their excellent D1 baseball team and taunt them that Houston Baptist has a D1 athletic program.
(never underestimate the power of the rivalry between Dallas and Houston... and between Baptists!)

Regis? It is a Jesuit school...but only has a $50 million endowment; that suggests their finances aren't robust.
Alaska schools? They're facing serious financial crisis and are cutting back on athletics.
Academy of Art? Is not really a D1 type school and has to rent athletic facilities from other schools and the city.

Actually, I suspect that Jeff Hurd has called UC-CS, WWU, and DBU so many times that the ADs don't pick up when "WAC" shows up on the caller ID.
