Wylioats, did you mean to put this in a PM? I never said football only / football first fans are bad fans. We're ALL fans or we wouldn't be here, right? (At least the ones who aren't here in one of their many aliases, like Tigerfan935).

The history behind it is well documented - you should ask yourself who began the use of the term basketball only's, when and why. And that it still perpetuates today. I'm just level-setting the pulse here a bit. Back then, there was never anything remotely associated with the idea that there are "football only's" too. The individual who coined the Bball Only term is / was an obvious football fan and used this as his bully pulpit to show everyone why HE is a better fan than all other Tiger fans. He started a parade that has been carried over by many with the same attitude. There is a collective chip-on-their-shoulder syndrome that usually comes out in their posts.

It simply isn't black and white man. Just because I like hoops > football does not mean I don't like Tiger football. The fact that I grew up passionate about all the great runs the Tiger hoop teams had carries with me today. Nothing against "football only fans"......but everything against the double standard that has existed here for years.

What about sec football fan/Tigers basketball fan?

Once upon a time there was a school that had a BB team and a FB team.
Both fought like Tigers!

The town where the school lived had tons of kids who grew up playing BB. Everywhere you looked kids were playin BB. Some folks grew up loving BB only. But then they started liking FB. Soon they even got interested in Baseball and Soccer. So many kids fighting like Tigers. So little time.

And they all lived happily ever after.

I was sitting in 118 and if the wind was blowing, it must have been at my back and the stadium shielded me from it.

I looked at the goalposts before every kick and they were mostly still.

Wind does weird things there. All I know is that I was far from cold, and I complain about the cold easily.

The truth of the matter is, there are THOUSANDS of Memphis basketball fans that are SEC football fans simply because their SEC is part of a conference that has been sold to them by ESPN/ABC/CBS etc. They remain Memphis BB fans because Memphis BB has been good in the past, and remain SEC FB fans because Memphis FB has been shamed in the local and national media as a "not worthy of your time and attention". People who actually attended college at an SEC school not withstanding, we have way too many "sidewalk graduates" of SEC schools in this town. It's your own fault Memphis is not looked upon in the same light as Ole' Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee, or Arkansas. If every person who graduated from the University of Memphis tried to attend Memphis Football games, We would be in the SEC or something similar.

It was warm on the east side being in the sun and with the wind blocked. I didn’t need my coat during the game.

Basketball only refers to fans that only support Memphis basketball, but cheer for SEC in everything else. There are quite a few of them. They usually are harsher critics of Tiger non-basketball teams than your average SEC fan.

Football only is a made up term in one persons mind that he uses to bash people that support the football team in any way. I have honestly never met a person that supports the football team that doesn't support other Tiger sports teams. I do know some that don't go to or watch Tiger basketball, but that's only because they don't like basketball at all. None of them actively cheer for other basketball teams or against the Tigers... especially trashing them as inferior to their "other" team.
