Translation: "Ohio is a better overall team than us. We knew we could compete with them and win if we played mistake-free football. Instead we looked like a monkey expletive-ing a football."

It's concerning to me that Tim still doesn't seem to grasp how badly his Defense is playing. He said repeatedly, 'We gave them a short field due to errors we committed on Offense and Special Teams.'. What I saw was a Defense that couldn't handle Ohio on short field or long field. There is no question our D is not doing the job. If he thinks it was only situational, he's grasping at straws.
Troubling.

Look guys, if your metric for him is to publicly unload on his team in epic Flushtheherd fashion, that's just never going to happen. He'll offer some criticism of players, but it's always couched in optimism.
If you played on that defense, do you want to be the ones getting scapegoated for your offense and special teams laying a huge egg?

The problem I personally have with it is the attitude of thinking a conference team is such an uphill battle. Combined with a scared gameplan 1st half Syracuse and the whole Michigan game the impression is that he doesn't go into every game with the attitude of "**** these guys, let's just go win". To me that is the attitude winners have, even if privately they don't love their team's chances.
I get that it's coachspeak but I really don't like it. But pressers are pressers and it's ultimately about results.

Can you please elaborate on this "improving defense" you mentioned above? I've seen very little improvement anywhere on this team.

They and we all seemed to believe the defense had been improving from the first game. That's what he said in the press conferences in prior weeks.
I think this team was improving until a disastrous third quarter against Toledo.
I don't see the evidence, BGSU and Miami still shredded us, EMU's offense is hardly dynamic esp. with Wiegers who played most of the game, GSU and CMU are just totally inept.
Lester's statement that "we knew this was this their (Ohio U.'s) year" and "if we played well we could keep it close" is not only puzzling but concerning.
IF HC doesn't go into game believing team can-will win, it's hard to convince players of it.

I agree. I hope its just his way of taking heat off the team postgame, but even then it's pretty weird to hear.

Hey! What are you trying to say here!? I’d like to see him show some fire for goodness sakes! Unloading on his team? No.

I can't count how many times Fleck said after losses in the first two years that the team was not prepared, it was the coaches' fault that the team was not prepared, and that they would work to be better prepared next time. He never threw anyone under the bus individually, but certainly made it clear to the media when he felt the team or coaches fell short.
