Sorry, not a rivalry for USM...and yeah, I know we've been your bee-atches lately....so maybe our players should make it one.

Here's to a good game..04-cheers

Just curious who USM considers their rival these days? Tech?

As a fan, I don't feel like we have any real rivals. The closest thing to a rival for me is Marshall.

S Miss is very young, especially our offense. Their inexperience shows with the number of mistakes they make each game. UAB should beat us by 21.

RE: RIVALRY WEEK: UAB vs Southern Miss 11/10 6:30 BEIN SPORTS
I'll say this:

Roughly speaking, USM has absolutely nothing to lose relatively to what's on the line for UAB. That can only favor USM psychologically. I think our defense can keep us in any game but right now we're just an unknown and that's gotta be somewhat of a concern for UAB. What kind of offense is UAB preparing for? The Whatley run option? or the JA pass attack? Who knows? Bottom line is, USM has nothing to lose. UAB has a lot more to lose. Pressure is on UAB to do what they're supposed to do, beat us. We'll see. Can't wait.

I'm nervous about the game, but UAB has so much to play for. Last home game for a lot of seniors and can lock up a spot in the conference championship. Also, as long as Bill Clark is on our sidelines I like our chances in just about every game we play. That said, I expect a battle.

My prediction is it's close for 3 quarters and UAB pulls away in the 4th and wins by 10.

We's hoping for another hurricane so we can chicken out like we did at Appy State. 03-shhhh

UAB is bigger, badder, faster and uglier than USM...they outweigh us by 10 lbs on the line, 5 lbs in the backfield, and out-age us by 5 years in the game-day program! 04-cheers

Yes, I’m calling out those split fans.

Yeah, good luck with that. That was bammer's biggest game of the year until the playoff. Expecting it not to hurt our attendance is unreasonable.

Yeah, I think our fans should have been there. I was. That said, if the low attendance against UA/LSU surprised you, you either have not been around long or you're not very observant.

*edit* Or both.

USM just had the smallest crowd since Bower's last game. I was at both.
I wouldn't expect many in Birmingham. Hope I'm wrong.

I was very pissed at yalls administration for shutting down your program, and was glad when I heard you would start up again, even bought a season ticket for you guys, but the advantages the NCAA gave your program in recruiting is showing it’s face this year. I do not think the rest of the league should be punished for the stupidity of your administration. Now, with that said, looking forward to the game Saturday, and good luck to your players and coaches.

Pretty sure it was the most watched college football game of the year period so far

It was time. Fedora got us close (but he had to hang 70 on ya'll), and did it with a change in football idealism. We had won with defense and special teams forever. Vanilla ball control offense. Fedora proved you could win with offense-first, and let the defense stop them enough. We won C-USA in 2011 with it. It got Fedora the UNC job.

The perfect storm/faceplant known as the 2012 USM football season cannot be blamed on Fedora. Ellllllllllllis Johnson gets most of the blame. The leadership that gave Ellllllllllllis Johnson a buyout earned some blame too. A book should be written.

You know, I hear a lot about USM hanging 70 on UAB. If you get a chance, look back at the stats in the game. USM did it by running the football and had 70 in the third quarter before completely calling off the dogs. UAB was only going through the motions that day, and USM was fighting for a winning season and a bowl game.

Here is the story and the stats:

RE: RIVALRY WEEK: UAB vs Southern Miss 11/10 6:30 BEIN SPORTS
That was Neal Callaway's second year. The team was basically cut by half when Watson Brown left. Some of our players/recruits followed him to Tennessee Tech. Some followed Pat Sullivan, the coach in waiting that the Alabama Board of Trustees screwed over, to Samford. Some transferred. Callaway also ran off players who were non-hackers, didn't go to class, or who had conduct issues.

Thin team, poorly recruited. HC was a very capable SEC level OL coach who had been demoted as Georgia's OC in midseason the year he got the job. He never should have gotten a head coaching job, period. He just got sacked as OC for USC by Helton.

The Callaway era was painful. Then he was replaced by Garrick McGee, who upped it to agonizing. Bad football followed by abysmal football.

Correct. UAB should have thanked us for only scoring 70 points.

I would think a worse loss for a UAB fan to digest would be the 62 we hung on you guys with a 0-23 team.
