That's kind of funny. Their new A.D. is Jeff Long (SEC & Pitt business roots) and now he hires Les Miles (most recently of the SEC). And they are beefing up the stadium with a renovation that is adding luxury boxes (more of an SEC requirement than a Big 10 requirement). I'm not saying Kansas is an SEC prospect but their T3 rights are held by ESPN and the hires and renovations could be a tell of a totally different direction. I'd say that could go either way although I agree that the Big 10 might well be a suitor, and could be their preference.
Nevertheless they are getting dressed up, so somebody is taking them out. None of those renovations have been required to stay in the Big 12. And a cash conscious school doesn't do a major renovation on a football stadium without good cause and probably not without some future guarantees.
But in your favor both Jeff Long and Les Miles are Ohio natives. And Les having coached at Oklahoma State and L.S.U. is quite comfortable recruiting in Texas.and Louisiana which is another hotbed of good recruits.

Kansas is definitely in a good position, academically, athletically and geographically - if/when there is another power conference realignment. They could slide in nicely in the B1G and the SEC, and if the PAC ever pursued more eastern expansion for more Midwestern viewership, they would fit in well there too. Oklahoma is in a similar position as well.
Even if the Big 12 is stable long-term, it's cool to see Kansas investing the right way in football. Between Long, Miles and the stadium renovations, they have done a 180 since 12 months ago.

Kansas can do the math, 15,000 a game does not pay the laundry bill
I'm sure B-12 in thier ear, 10% of your inventory is worthless,
B-12 suspends Kansas FB from the conf untill they improve
brings in Cin
no way SEC & B-10 are looking at Kansas
i cant wait for the Ala-Kansas fb game

Kansas doesn't need football to pay the bills. Their basketball is worth more than all but 20 football programs.

B-12 needs Kansas to be viable FB program
Any P conference needs about 50,000 average attendance at Football from them, and needs them to be able to make the occasional run like a Duke, Wake Forest, Northwestern, or Vanderbilt.
Less than 25,000 attendance and no consistent effort won't cut it.

The only difference is Kansas has been ranked in the top 5 and has an Orange Bowl victory. Kansas got the Orange invite over Missouri (ranked #2 at some point during the season and the Big XII North champ) because they felt Kansas would bring more fans than Missouri. That really tells you the perception Kansas has over similar P5 programs.
Kansas has been there. They just haven’t had any luck since firing Maggiano.
