Good lord Matt, I think you’ve made your point.

If one game of bad attendance is the trigger to make him leave, screw him. What’s next? Parking spot not close enough to the door? Give our program some credit, there are coaches out there that jump here in a heart beat.

RE: Clark's Contract...
If he leaves, it won’t be because of money or attendance. It will be because he wants to see f he is as good on a bigger stage as he seems to be on a smaller one. Money and attendance will be better on that bigger stage and nothing UAB can do to compete with that in the short term

And you're not going to find many in this forum that aren't doing everything they can to fix the attendance /money problem.

A former UAB player who sits in front of us left at halftime, and loudly said to some friends he was leaving "to go watch the other game." The fact that our game was a blowout early probably didn't help keep fans there. Of course, the other game was apparently never in doubt either, so if they raced home to watch it, they didn't see much.

I have never left a UAB game before 0:00 was on the clock, and I sure wasn't going to leave one that was that fun on Saturday, especially to go watch *them* play.

RE: Clark's Contract...
On the topic of people who won't go to Legion Field, I have been talking to a guy at work for 3 years about UAB. Back then, he told me he was an Auburn fan, and he said he'd love to go to a UAB game, but only if they played in a new stadium that wasn't Legion Field. Over the past 3 years, I have caught him starting to refer to UAB as "we" and getting excited about the things that have happened with our program.

Finally, for the North Texas game, he showed up to see the Blazers in person at Legion Field, and he had a great time. He was wishy washy on coming to the UTSA game, but I texted him on gameday because I had some extra tickets for him, but he said he already got some!! He will likely be there Saturday for USM as well! Three straight games for him, a guy who wouldn't go to Legion Field!

My point is that we are starting to win little battles like this. Let's keep it up. I think Saturday's crowd will be very good!

We'd probably 3-4k more just by having a day game instead of a night game.

6 p.m. starts until mid-October. 1 p.m. starts from then on. It seems easy when I type it out.

It really is that simple, and would make a significant difference. We seem to have it completely reversed, playing day games in oppressive heat, then moving to night games just in time for the cold. Someone is just not thinking.

And no start-up online TV network's contract should be able to dictate those game times.

Having been hardened and embittered on the afternoon of 2 December 2014, I'm pretty sure it's the opposite of that. Someone is most definitely thinking. Got to earn that $356K per annum somehow.

If 'Bama was playing there, it would be as crowded as it is for the Classic.

And UAT has a fan base much much larger than ours. I'm not sure as to why everyone keeps bringing up the idea that UAT fans would fill up the stadium. I'm also sure that there are UAT fans that won't go to Legion Field or that area as well. Legion Field is a dump. The city knows it or else they wouldn't be funding another stadium.

I like that we've gotten to the point where 17,000 people is a disappointing crowd. We don't even have to tell people which side of the stadium to sit on anymore.

RE: Clark's Contract...
Using Legion Field as an excuse not to come to UAB games is just that an excuse. Legion field on game day is one of the safest environment in Alabama on that day. Birmingham Police and there are many there, and very good at what they do, especially in traffic and crowd control.
Anyone who has attended a UAB game in the last 10 years can attest to the placement of law enforcement, the bag policy, the screening process and policemen at are near every stairwell , entrance and exit or other places where crowds may gather are attention may be needed.
When you hear Legion field think Birmingham...its a catch phrase a whistle or sort to say its a dangerous place to be...its in the bad part of town. Well the truth is its not the bad side of town its an older part of town and fear is a perception of Birmingham however that part of town is not bad where football is being played.
Who on here has ever felt afraid to tailgate, walk around the park on game day.
As to attendance I harp on UAB being unable to get their own UAB employees to buy in..If they could get a fourth of their own employees to buy in those employees will bring family and friends.
UAB basketball is a baby boomer program, we are young in athletics, but old in fans. We have to sell ourselves to Millennial and generation X. Most fans who were here at the inception of UAB basket ball are over 60.
When you come to the basketball games look at the medium age for fans in attendance, a good number are over 60. A friend of mines who has purchased season tickets for football and basketball since his thirties had to forgo coming to games for health reasons not because of Legion field..remember Legion field is a whistle. He stream as many as he can now. Question when did we become such a scared and fearful people( not including myself ) and allowing fear to rule...its Birmingham and not legion field. Its age and not evolving, stagnant, new media, convenient, streaming, a sign of the times.. This will be my 38th basketball team and 24th football team to pull for. Yes I will be very happy when we move into the new stadium, new smell, new seating, lighting, excitement, food, Beer and all the new amenities, but where ever UAB teams make their home, I will be there to give them a home field or court advantage. Even scary Legion field.

The friend I mentioned earlier doesn’t refuse to visit legion field bc he’s scared. He refuses bc he thinks Legion Field sucks.
Yes, it’s an excuse. But it’s the one he (and many others) use

I’m certainly not scared of legion field, but it is absolutely in a bad part of town. That being said, anyone who doesn’t come bc it’s in a bad part of town or bc they don’t like legion field is just making excuses and isn’t a real uab fan..

It is an excuse. But it is the excuse of the FAIR WEATHER fan. Those are the ones that will make the sellout and pack a stadium for UAB. We are not going to get 65,000 alumni to purchase season tickets and religiously go to every game in the time frame that we are given by the powers that be. Like it or not, the BoT is anti-UAB and they are trying to have any excuse to shut us down again.

Legion field is a dump and the fair weather fan knows this and will not travel from the comfort of their home to go to a dump.

I believe right now that the area around Uptown is actually a worse place to play.

If the parking lots are as open as they are at Legion Field though it will be ok.
