Antonio Jones-Davis Revisited
Congrats to Antonio Jones-Davis! He has been a revelation this year. Here's a young man who made a really bad and embarrassing decision last September against San Diego State--the infamous eye-gouging incident involving Rashad Penny--took his medicine, worked hard, and has become a critical component of maybe the best D in NIU history. Leads the team in total tackles (84) and has 9 TFL, 4 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries. He's also been MAC Defensive Player of the Week. On this board, reactions to the eye gouging ranged from kick him off the team to suspend him for the season to all manner of punishments that we insisted the coaching staff mete out immediately. A lot of posters also seemed sure that NIU's football reputation was ruined, when in reality the incident hasn't been mentioned once during any of NIU's game telecasts that I've heard. Glad to see that cooler heads prevailed and Antonio has made the most of his second chance. Very cool story. Keep up the good work, Antonio. Go Huskies!

Very good post. It is so disappointing that there are these knee jerk reactions on here where people go way overboard on punishments. They never factor in the human side of things.

Amen. They're college kids and they make mistakes. While the eye-gouging wasn't a great look, it's certainly not unheard of in football especially at the D1 level. He absolutely deserved a second chance and he's been a hell of a player-arguably our best defensive player.
Looking forward to more great play from him and our Huskie defense.
Go Huskies! BEAT TOLEDO.
