RE: Fire every coach on defense
Question - If Norvell hangs on to the current defensive coaches, The D continues to struggle, and we find ourselves sitting at 5-4 this time next year, would this equate to Norvell being on the "hot seat" or at least a little warm?

I am not advocating the "hot seat" idea so just an honest question. I personally would not consider that "hot seat" territory for CMN but would support a heart to heart conversation at that level about his assistants and their future with the university. Or would the end of this season be a better time to have that conversation?

Just from where I sit in the peanut gallery I'd say that conversation should probably happen sooner than later.

he'd make a great Assoc HC/DC for Memphis.

Yes, let's hire a coach who was just fired for abusing his players.

as I understand it a player fell out while being individually worked out by the Strength Coach...that coach along with the training staff did not render proper aid. The Strength Coach along with the head trainer were fired and DJ Durkin's only crime was being at the practice that day.

that's the story I was told. is that not true?

it's much bigger than a single incident

Nah. He could easily end up with 8 wins this season. No way we fire him next year, barring a major scandal. If anything he would just have his hand forced on getting rid of Ball.

Norvell won't be on the hot seat as long as the team keeps winning 6+ games a year. He could be told to replace Ball - although most people like him - without Norvell's job being threatened. Though, since Norvell and Ball are very close, that could lead to strained relationships.

If the D finishes the season as they played Saturday though, it will be a moo point. They looked good.
