Not really sure. Most years there are approximately 80 eligible teams for 40 bowls.

2017 was an exception.

Of course, some can remember recently when 5 - 7 teams went (was it Mississippi State vs. Miami (O)???

Lol...He had a pretty god awful game against a god awful team. This game was close because he played poorly...but sure, way to rally the troops....

Mind you, I don't pin it all on him. The coaching staff did a poor job of play calling and putting him in positions that best suit his skill set, but he didn't do the team many favors either. With that said, the offense is nowhere near as effective when he is running the show.

I agree. In a way, I feel sorry for Weigers...not because our o-line is mediocre, at best, but because he is a terrible fit for the scheme and it is obvious his forte is not improvising when the pocket collapses. Creighton really made a mistake in signing him to the roster...unless the offensive scheme was going to be tailored to Weigers’ skills. It wasn’t and Weigers has struggled...and EMU has struggled as a result. If you want to run a dual threat scheme you need a dual threat QB...not a traditional drop back passing QB. I blame Creighton and Keen for this.

Wiegers is what he is at this point, but the offensive line failing to pass block on 70% of Wiegers drop-backs was a huge problem. He had ZERO time, even on quick throws. They didn't exactly set him up for success.

The CMU DL is better than the average MAC DL, though. We won't see a DL (or front 7) that good again this year. Hopefully Tallman can get back to full health and Leatiota can return as well.

RE: Game Day: CMU
CMU only gained 138 total yards of offense... Yikes.

I think about 35 of it came on their final drive with the backup QB in.

Also: How about Blake Banham today? Great game from him. 200 all-purpose yards, with 96 of them coming on returns.

Completely disagree. Wiegers is an outstanding QB. His teammates let him down but he stays positive and just gets the win. Great kid, outstanding attitude.
He probably wishes he could have brought his huge OL and running backs with him from Iowa City, but it is what it is, he's not pointing fingers.

Getting back to Ericksen, how about that play where he tried to leap over the defender and got about 2 inches off the ground, Air Laimbeer style!

I liked either Chad's or Rob's comment:

Ian leaped on EST and the defender on Central standard time.

Ian was way, way early on that leap (and I don't think he would have made it anyways).

The Monmouth game is a total factor. The only way it means anything as it we had lost it.

Bowl committees look for good wins, good losses, etc. The rest are just 'filler.'

CMU game was 'filler.' Didn't help us; didn't hurt us. A big nothing burger.

I am certain that everyone on this sight deeply appreciates such an insightful and relevant post! Perhaps during the Akron game you could spy Ian on the sidelines and report equally important actions from him such as how many times he picks his nose or scratches his privates.

Just realized that all 5 of the teams that beat EMU are bowl eligible. No bad losses there. Shoulda beat SDSU and NIU though.
