Yep. If we could average 9 wins a season for 5 years we can get there . Dang those Rip and Porter years.
I've thought about pointing that out every time I notice the all-time record in the game threads, and then posting something, facetiously, like "Bring on those cupcakes. Mmmmmm, we like cupcakes!"
But really, we're 28 games under .500. Switch 14 games, and we've had way more than 14 "heartbreakers", then we would be .500.
We were 5-31 in West's last year and Porter's two.
We had another 2-10 under West, and a 3-9 in I think his second year.
Rip had at least one 3-8, maybe two.
We had two 1-10 years under Dempsey in the 80's I think, or a 1-10 & a 2-9.
I think Bailey's first year, after Dempsey, was 1-10.
Stobart's first year, when Bailey got fired in May or something, was 2-9.
Fuente's first year was 3-9 I think.
Heck, throw out the three or four 3 win seasons I mentioned and that's 8 seasons that have sunk us since 1983. I'm sure we had some 1 win seasons in the 40's and maybe one in the 50's as well, and I know we did in the 30's, 20's and teens.
Since 2001, West, Porter, and Fuente had 6 seasons totalling 13-59. That hurts
