For what this is worth, right now we have 2 players over 500 total yards gained this year. Another 4 are over 400 so it's possible we could end up with 6 guys over 500 total yards this year. In Haynes 5 years we had a total of 11 500+ yard seasons. Should certainly help recruiting on offense. There's numbers to go around.

Does anyone know what's wrong with Rankin and if he might play in the finale?

For what it's worth #2. I went back to 1990 and we haven't had a single season with 5 guys with 500+ yards from scrimage in a season. Of the 4 over 400 McKoy is the farthest from 500 at 419. Barrett is at 476, Dixon has 456, and Shaw has 479. So barring injury at least 5 over 500 is very realistic and 6 is definitely possible with 1.5 games left. That's at least something to root for right?

Barrett just completed a perfect pass for a touchdown. Oh, it was to the defender. My bad.

Don't understand prior to start of season I would have said the Line Backer position was going to be a strength. They have played terrible this year tonight there was runs up the middle and no defender was in sight

Good to see McFadden in there making plays. I assume he's going to get the 4 game redshirt this year. He's an exciting looking freshman. He and McKoy should be quite the duo on the perimeter. I think they're both 6'3"+. Carrigan and Dixon will be back then theres another 6'4" freshman WR (Williams?) and the 6'1" Purdue transfer DJ Edwards. We are going to be really deep at WR the next few years.

I was surprised to see Rankin in at the end. Has Shaw really stolen all his carries or is he still banged up? Rankin's too good to only get a few garbage time carries.

RE: Toledo vs Kent State 11/15
There has been some improvement on offense. Over 11 games so far, we've had about 4216 yards of offense, ranked 84th in yards per game out of 130 teams. Between 2014 and 2017, we were always between 6th worst and 2nd worst in the country in offensive yards per game. Our best offensive total for than span was 3710 yards in 2016. So Lewis has already beat Haynes' best season offensively.

Sorry to say that I could not stomach the 4th quarter. I can not believe that our defense could not be better than it is with the bodies on hand. Yes we are very short on talent, but you would think that 11 bodies could line up and stand in the right location.

The defense has seemed to regress as the season went one - we weren't that bad against OU or Ole Miss - but of late teams have figured out to gash us consistently with long runs. Much work is needed before next season.

I can’t help but wonder if the defensive problems are rooted in the change to the 3-4 defense. I understand wanting to come in as a coach and put your stamp on it, but I can’t help but wonder if a switch like that wouldn’t have been better served in a year or two once this staff had the players for that switch. Generally speaking, a 3-4 defense is no friend to stopping the run.

Have to agree - I have never been a fan of this defense = even in the pros. Think it requires bigger-faster DLs and Lbs than we have

Watching our games we are a physically weak team get over powered and can not get off blocks. Hopefully the new staff will improve this area too.

Barrett needs much better protection (said before). Hard to expect much when the pocket collapses on both sides.

There seems to still be a talent gap. We can hope the gap lessens next year and we are much more competitive. Then in year three...well, we can dream.

RE: Toledo vs Kent State 11/15
I think some of the downward trend on defense is directly related to our improved offense. Teams know they have to score more to beat us and not just have to avoid turnovers. They open things up and expose more of our current lack of talent. This year was a small step forward we just have to see if we can sustain it next year.
