Welcome to a new ERA of women's basketball. We have three players returning from last year's squad. 3 point sharp shooter Victoria Morris, forward Dejah Carter, and Taylor Edwards. Edwards is the only player who played under coach Barefoot as a walk on. So for the fans it will be a lot of new faces to learn, and it will give us more insight into Nikki's style of coaching. I am excited about this season and looking forward to seeing what this team has to offer on the court. The season starts at home this Friday.

The Captains of CNU went 25-5 and went to the sweet 16. Two years ago they made it the Div-III NCAA Final Four. In preseason polls, they are ranked 20th. However this will be a new team for CNU as well. They had eight seniors graduate. They will be lead by senior Zhara Tannor, a 5'5" PG who averaged 6.5 ppg, 3.6 apg, and 3.0 rpg. They are a team that lead the nation in steals last year, lead by Tannor. So look for lots of traps on defense.

I don't put a lot of stock in preseason rankings. With this much new talent, ODU is very much a wildcard team. Nobody is really sure what to expect. And what we see at the start of the season is never the end product.

With that said, I think Rice at two might be underselling them. Erica Ogwumike is the star on that team, but if 6'9" Nancy Mulkey is as good as advertised...watch out.

The freshmen and newcomer Maggie Robinson were impressive. This should be a far superior team to what we saw last year. I’m excited about that. However, I am concerned about the team’s ability to control the paint and stop other teams from rebounding. Coach Nikki has the team on the right track. All fans should be very excited about the future.

The team is fast and aggressive. Maggie Robinson is surprisingly quick and really hustles. This looks like a competitive team. Coach McKay remains a vocal presence, which I love, but it was a joy not seeing her have to point to spots on the court and shout "Go there".

This is a really young team, so expectations for this year should be tempered. Hopefully, there will be significant progress from game to game. They shot really poorly (25-76 and just 3-25 from 3). Free throws continue to be a problem (54.5%). The team looks fast, but sloppy. Maggie Robinson played really hard and looked good. Ajah Wayne looks like a budding star. She is fast and a very good ball handler. The team was VERY sloppy, turning the ball over 20 times to a Division III team. I don't know if the Refs were calling the game crazy tight or it was that sloppy, but a total of 60 fouls for 65 free throws in 40 minutes is insane and really annoying. Towards the end, I was hoping they'd let them play unless there was blood! I had to be at work at 10 and wasn't sure I was going to make it and the game started at 6:30! Between the 2 teams there were 55 turn overs, as well. I guess it is an improvement over last year when the team barely beat CNU.

As expected. Timmons was still enrolled at ODU and "taking the year off" but now that Register is out.... Ajah Wayne did an outstanding job at PG so I wonder who'll be the starter? I'll take Ajah.
