Yeah, we should block a lot of shots this season.

I had to leave at halftime but here are my thoughts from the first half. X needs be more decisive. He still dribbles way too much without going anywhere. Godwin looks like a new player without the braces, lol. He looks confident. BJ and Ahmad are going to be pretty good leaders for us. Defense should be pretty good, especially at the rim and in the paint.

Looks like a drumming in 2nd half. Ahmad might break 30?

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

Wade looked the most comfortable of the true freshmen. Ezipke and Reece are both going to need some work, and will not be replacing Carver anytime soon.

Kithcart will be getting some court time this year.

Yeah out of the freshmen Wade looked the best, which is just interesting since we are so deep there. Ezipke was playing with a knee brace but didn't look like it slowed him down.

As I said earlier Robinson is a very large man. He is going to be a beast. Dickens has the most ridiculous wingspan I've ever seen. Got a bunch of blocks in the 2nd half.

It's one game but I expected more from Green. There were a lot of substitutions going on so it was hard for players to find rhythm. He just doesn't look like he has a lot of confidence, but now I'm wondering if that's just his natural body language.

Free throws were sad, but it's the first game so I'm not going to freak about it. Just wish we could reasonably expect 80% from the team.

This is Caver's team. It's just a matter if the team can gel around him. He's going to have to carry a lot of games early in the season. There were some glimpses of what looks like a really great team. The question is how soon will it come and how consistent can it be.

I’ll take winning by 30 in an exhibition. We need to make more shots and hit our FTs. Could be very good if we start to click as a team. We know we can play with anyone in the league.

It needs to be better, but three teams in the country shot 80% last year. That might be ask8ng for a bit much.

Hard to get much out of that whistlefest. Most real games aren't so ticky tacky with the fouls and it will be more consistent in terms of subs and who is on the court. Both Dickens and Robinson showed enough promise to stay optimistic. Caver looked better, but we were playing VWU so I'll wait and see before crowning him POY. None of the freshmen stood out, but if Dickens and Robinson stay healthy, they should have time to develop.

Caver was 13-17 from the line. That means more than anything because he needs to get to the line and make ~72-75%. 17 times in 1 game is wild tho, vs anyone. I like it. Flop like Elmore if you have to

I realize that it is part of the game, but I really don't like it.

I would like to think that a good ref, after NOT blowing the whistle on an Elmore flop, would take him aside and say: "Son, that was not a foul. It was not even close. But now that I've seen you do it, you need to realize that it is even less likely that I will be blowing my whistle next time I see you involved in a close play."

It was an exhibition, so I wasn't expecting edge-of-the-seat excitement. But last night's game was painful to watch. I don't ever before remember checking the clock as many times as I did and wondering why it wasn't moving.

Had to leave in 2nd half. In the first half I was concerned that both of the big 'uns seemed out of place on defense too often. They missed out on a lot of rebounds. At one point one of them (and I now forget which one) was so out of place on D that JJ turned angrily to the bench and sent in Carver.

Wade looked more poised than any freshman of the past few years. Think we're well stocked after this year with Green, Godwin and Wade.

Caver looks like he knows it is his team.

Kithcart's first made shot was a trey. Loved it.

If Caver finished 13-17 from the line he must have only missed one or none in the second half.

Yes. After he hit it, on the replay, you could see him mouth "all day" towards the fans.

I sit behind the bench and JJ wasn't angry. He was using those mistakes as teachable moments. There was a play where a big should have switched but did it late and it led to an unnecessary and 1. Before switching him out, JJ walked to talk to the bigs on the bench to discuss when the switch should have happened. Then when the big came to the bench, he talked it through with him.

The only time I saw him get angry in the first was when BJ took it to the hole, got fouled hard (you could hear the smack from the other side of the Ted) and there was no call. Carver got a foul call later in the possession.

Not great and not bad. Caver is a stud, but we all already knew that. Giles pointed out how many free throws he shot, but he could've gone to the line a lot more. Refs missed some calls on him believe it or not.

Both of the bigs looked pretty good, but it is clear to me that Dickens has the extreme high upside. He has a very good looking jump shot for a 7 footer.

It looks like Carver is going to play starter minutes this year. That is a huge concern, as he is basically a ghost when he is on the floor.

Kithcart has to play more minutes than he did last night. This might mean that we have to play BJ at the 4 (which would be our best lineup anyway).

BJ continues to struggle on defense.

Godwin is now looking for his shot, every time he touches the ball.

All in all, not bad, but if Aaron Carver is playing significant minutes for us, we will have another year of finishing 3rd or 4th in the conference and losing in the semis of the CUSA tournament.

I'm not overly concerned with Carver getting decent minutes as long as we get good offense production from the other 4 on the floor. We can live with one defensive and rebounding specialist on the floor but not multiple like we had a couple years back with Denzel and Baker.

I actually thought Carver looked great on d. He knew where to be and how to position. He ever got a couple nice stick back shots from reading the rebounds correctly. I saw improvement over last season. (Again....I know its d3 competition)

RE: VWC@ODU
Since it's the start of the season I'll be an optimist...Carver knows where to be in both the offensive and defensive sets so he'll see significant PT, but he is very limited from a production standpoint. His minutes should be the carrot for the youngsters to learn their places, get back on D, then defend their man, get the loose balls and fit in on offense. My hope is that Carver's minutes are halved by CUSA tourney time.

As someone said many pages ago, this team is loaded with potential. Patience will be required.

More bothersome to me is Seth Davis' comments to Jones the other night (paraphrasing) that he's going to have to win damn near every game to even sniff NCAA. So in other words, do the impossible or watch from home. There needs to be two tournaments, with a title match between the two winners. Something I would never have favored before.
