RE: 2019 Football Schedule
October 12, 2019 was the date we had scheduled Campbell at their place. This possibly was game number 12 and now is a bye week.

Good info. Wonder if we could or should charge them a fee for dropping. Also, I would not play them in the future if they decided to not honor their commitment in 2019.

I hope Huge is working on finding us a game that Saturday. I'd prefer a lower level FBS team...ODU, Marshall, Charlotte, Buffalo, or Ohio type.

I like playing Lafayette and really enjoyed going to their place a few years back. What moves the needle for me is Tribe football and I actually prefer watching us play Lafayette over UVA from a gameday standpoint.

We now play Campbell in Williamsburg in 2022 and at Campbell in 2023.

If you are only talking about butts in the seats then VMI might bring more than either of those others (or Lafayette or Colgate). NOTE: I am NOT advocating this. I hate playing VMI! We beat them by an average score of 38-7 (or so) and lose 3 players to cheap shot injuries. My preferred method of scheduling would be to schedule home-and-homes against good, somewhat local FCS teams like Furman, Wofford, Colgate, etc and to eliminate the FBS game and use it to schedule home-and-homes against top caliber teams from further away. That way we could play top Missouri Valley, Southland, or Big Sky teams (including at home every other year) and we would play 6 home games at least every other year.

I swear I must have missed the all the cheap shotting when we played VMI. I know there was the Cook injury (just from the boards as I was in grade school at the time) but we played VMI through 2011 and I can't remember a single injury as a result of those games. The Keydets are the number one team I'd put back on the schedule. They're local, in a major (FCS) conference, and were a former rival. I never would want us playing someone like Sam Houston State, especially at the expense of our FBS game. I wouldn't mind dipping back into the old SoCon opponent pool though. I'm surprised we haven't played Furman since '90 and The Citadel since '91.

2019 Football Schedule
We already covered the VMI cheap shots conspiracy. I believe tribe1693 said he attended every VMI home game for 10 years then covered all of our games vs VMI from the sideline for another 4 years. He recalls no cheap shot incidents. If they were, indeed, cheap shot artists back in the 70s and 80s, I'm fairly certain those players, coaches, and staff are no longer with the program.

Hopefully they're still looking for a 12th game to add somewhere. Come playoff selection time we could use another FCS win.

RE: 2019 Football Schedule
Same CAA schedule, Colgate again, swapping Bucknell for Lafayette, and swapping VPI for UVa.

That's one way of looking at it.

Can we do better next year with a more experienced team and new head coach?

RE: 2019 Football Schedule
If nothing else could we even just get a D3 opponent to get us to 12 games? Might not be the most exciting game but I'd think a team like CNU might at least put some butts in the stadium

A win over D3 does not count for playoff selection consideration. It is like no game at all. So, nothing gained by that. (The only new butts in the seats for a CNU game would be from CNU fans).

Yes, but the athletic department ALWAYS needs to think optimistically. Halfway through the season and realizing that the team is pretty good and possibly good enough for the playoffs is too late to be trying to schedule a 12th game. That needs to be done now. Then if it turns out that we stink, well, at least we were ready just in case....

We should hire a consultant to find us a 12th game. 05-stirthepot

Out of conference result should be 2-1. Colgate loses half their two-deep from their team when we met...6-7 starters on defense. I truly believe there's enough talent on the Tribe roster right now to beat Colgate. It will happen with an improved offense.

In conference we are talented enough this year to match up to everyone on the schedule except JMU and Towson (and we were leading them at half). Those two teams were actually young and will remain more talented than the Tribe next year. Nobody else on the schedule will be anymore experienced and talented than our squad.

Get the 12th game against a winable FCS squad and go to the playoffs. With the excitement of a new head coach and some new assistants recruiting next fall can be really strong.

RE: 2019 Football Schedule
The Tribe has time to find a 12th game and hopefully can do so sooner rather than later. 2 byes is too many. I deleted the rest of my post on the 2018 offense because it doesn't fit the thread and it is too depressing. Let's find an opponent for either 9/21 or 10/12. I don't care who it is. On the bright side, excited to see 6 home games again. Willing to see a 7th or a road game. How about ODU, Liberty, VMI or an easy to schedule Hampton or Norfolk State. Maybe an Ivy is still available on 9/21?

RE: 2019 Football Schedule
I agree that a 12th game makes sense. It would seem as if perhaps Campbell was the 12th game and something occurred to change that.

I would first love to see a 12th game with a Virginia D1 school, second a peer type school, upper level Patriot, Southern, or Ivy League opponent. I'm disappointed that we're not playing Delaware every year. We played them they were DII and we were DI for goodness sake.

I may be mistaken but I thought when and where we play Delaware (or any other conference for that matter) is totally up to the CAA and completely out of our hands.
