I think some of those comments began as a good faith effort to request more coverage for women's sports, but it seems to have devolved into a struggle session. Sports other than football and men's basketball, even men's sports, don't get much attention. And this is with the already low baseline for "attention" used to describe interest in William and Mary athletics. Not only are you a William and Mary athlete (niche interest), but you're a female athlete (doubly niche interest). I understand the frustration because the women put in the same time and effort, but for zero glory. All I can say is that their program seems to be headed in the right direction, so good on them.
Nice Maoist China reference. I agree with Nogre that it would be great if the blog (like may successful ones) were to expand. That would mean taking on staff - if you could call it that - to cover other sports. Whether that extra help came from athletes, men, women, or any other dedicated individual, it would be a great addition to your enterprise.
Wholeheartedly agree there could be more coverage of women's sports, and other men's sports as well.
But we are an independently run sports blog comprised of two W&M alumni — we are not officially affiliated with the school, and choose to run this blog in our own free time (which is very limited). We're strapped for time as it is, and as it were, we can typically only post only 1 (or 2 MAX) articles per week.
We both have full-time jobs and very limited resources. We chose to focus our efforts on W&M football and men’s basketball when we started the Blog as students in 2014, and have contributed hundreds of hours to coverage of those teams over the past 4 years. We've only received overwhelmingly positive responses to our work until now (thank you to those on these boards for your continued support!).
Including any other sport to our Blog, mens or womens, involves far more hours than one might think. Even bringing on another writer to simply write articles about women's basketball, for example, would require me or Kyle to #1 edit that work in its entirety each time, #2 create graphics/incorporate pictures each time, and #3 broadcast the article(s) across all our social media efforts (at least an additional 2 hours of work for us per article per week). It's just not possible given our constraints.
We definitely understand where this is all coming from, but have to focus on using our time as best we can, as full-time alumni who do this on our own dime and with limited free time.
We strongly support our school's athletic programs (all of them), and for anyone to suggest anything otherwise is incredibly misleading, at best.
Go Tribe!
