And, UTEP is still on pace to be the worst team since I've kept the rankings (~30 years).

Here's hoping they continue.

Is this the worst Rice team in your rankings (based on results to date), in the time you've been keeping them? It obviously misses the early 80s Rice teams.

Yes.
So, ipso facto, as of today, our program has gotten worse, not better, after the regime change (which, I will add FWIW, I thought was long overdue).

Bloomgren’s biggest failure as coach so far was his inability to retain the transfers. Anderson, Ibe, and Gordon all would’ve helped this teamed significantly.
Other than that, it’s hard for me to blame Bloomgren for the bare cupboard. Honestly, I’ve been impressed by the play of some of the true freshman. Calderon looks like a star in the making, the guys on the OL show promise, and there are still a number of them redshirting at various positions where we might be a bit deeper (DL in general, Ferraro on the OL, etc).

A loss, at home, to this UTEP team, would be the low point in the (on-field) history of Rice football.

bare cupboard is a cop-out. That's like saying no coach in the country could have done any better. Bare or not, it is his job to make the most of what we have, and I don't think that has happened. JMHO.
Agree with you on the freshmen. Every game, I am thankful he was able to woo Calderon back.
