I haven't heard any indication it's terrorism, but it's a relatively new Boeing 737 and the weather was fine. The plane was going from Jakarta to another city in Indonesia I believe. Lion Air is the airline.

2017 was the safest year on record for airplane crashes in terms of deaths in a long time. I don't think 2018 will be quite as low of a number as 2017 but the trend of lower death tolls seems to be continuing.

Unreliable air speed indication most likely. Issues with pitot tubes probably.

That plane had an issue with unreliable air speed indication on the flight inbound the evening prior.
Maintenance crew flushed the tubes on report. Probably didn't fix the problem and I bet the pilots did not
read the maintenance report from the prior evening.

Just don't fly in the south pacific.
