03-lmfao I’ll wait see what happens when the NCAA 24-25 year old, 36 seniors and transfers leave

So you want to make the mistake of not believing in Clark? His eye for talent? Coaching? Roster moves? We've got a QB rushing the passer and getting sacks. We got a LB making catches and burning defenses.

And you got a coach that’ll be gone next year....

I dont think so. It is common knowledge that NCAA relaxed the transfer and schloarship rules for UAB to re-start their program. That has very little to do with coaching but just much more physicality than any other CUSA team.

Frank Wilson is right, UAB has the oldest team in FBS full of 5th and 6th year transfers. That is short term fix and leads to immediate success but is no way to sustain a program.

Remember UAB lost to freaking Coastal Carolina. Tech doesnt have the offense to beat UAB and there is no way to grind out a win against team with that many older players.
Coastal Carolina is ranked higher than a majority of CUSA teams. And UAB has improved just about every week this year. It was a bad loss but bad losses happen. Since we are so bad (or you're saying Clark is bad...or something?) for losing a road game to CCU then how come everyone else can't just mimic it and beat the crap out of us? LT lost to us by 21 on your home field. Your head coach got outcoached again this year

A couple LT fans excuses and whining have infected the conference like a virus. It is always <insert random reason about why LT didn't *actually* get beat by the other team>

2017: "We beat ourselves!"
2018: "They have 40,000 seniors on the field!"
2019: "???"

Literally every game in basketball: "CUAB REFS"

UAB hosts the CUSA tourney a few years in a row because Birmingham *won* the bid: "Special privilege to UAB!"

"Oh my gosh students are getting some free (but already paid for) tickets to the CUSA tourney, let's lose our freaking minds!"

On and on and on it goes

Shake that head all you want. I'll take the word from the horse's mouth. Oh and bigger jobs than yours were turned down. I'll leave that here. and FWIW I don't have a problem if he was interested. No telling what agents say or how stories get twisted when it goes through the rumor mill. I just know what I know. You always listen. Hell I listen now when there are inquiries for me. Doesn't mean I am interested. That's how the game is played.

Enjoying what we are doing and excited about the future. Much respect for USM.

Back to UTSA. Doesn't look like the same Roadrunner team I watched earlier in the year a couple times. Not sure what is going on with you guys.

Stop taking it so personally. I think CUSA is down, we all stink. That isnt changing.

And lets get this out of the way before you complain about “making excuses” again. UAB 100% outcoached us, as did MSU lastnight. We are completely capable of recognizing this. But don’t be blind to what everyone is saying. Your team is benefitting from an obvious boost. Your team was still allowed to practice. Your team could study all of our films. Your team got scholarship waivers. Your team is full of players older than some NFL players are. I think we, Tech, have maybe one 24 year old and its the punter. Your coach is decent as well, and those two things combined with the baaaad football this league is outputting is allowing huge success for you. Your team IS improving every week. And its also playing worse teams every single week. I honestly dont know why we even have 6 wins at this point but we do.

Don’t deny that you are benefitting from a boost. Accept it, the defensiveness indicates you probably know it deep down. This isnt a miracle season as much as it is a gift. Its a bit disingenuous to say otherwise. Just accept the gift.

Congrats for having your team back. Good luck against A&M.

If you believe UAB has attained some unfair advantage, then I encourage you to contact your administrator and recommend the Ray Watts model of getting it.

If you do, and it does, you will not hear a peep out of me.

Oh, one more thing. Did you enjoy the 2015 and '16 football seasons?

I sure didn't.

Tyler Johnston got his first NCAA start last night. His QB rating was 96.1, #1 for the day.

We might still have something left next year. Just sayin'.

Of course no program will ever try this in the future. But it is what it is.

(11-04-2018 09:32 AM)Dawgxas Wrote:  Not that. Tech has gone the juco route before, with many seniors and the next year was a disaster.

UAB is a unique situation, which probably will not happen again, with the NCAA relaxing the transfer and scholarship rules. It was a landing spot for the all the P5 troubled or not playing transfers. Having that many older players, seniors and transfers is really unprecedented. I think the drop-off for UAB will be even more profound

You're wrong.

Clark had about a year and a half, two seasons, to prepare for last year. He researched previous teams who had come back, like Marshall after the plane crash and SMU after the death penalty. SMU came back with a team full of 18 and 19 year olds, and got mashed for years. Clark knew that he needed to recruit a solid core of JUCO and transfer players, so that didn't happen.

The staff carefully researched players before recruiting them. They talked to college and high school coaches about the guys that they were interested in. There are a lot of kids who have injuries late in recruiting, or who had academic issues. UAB was able to recruit the injured knowing that they would have time to rehab, or that there would be time to get guys academics straightened out.

A lot of our success is because of that careful planning. We also got the benefit of guys transferring in from other programs, because we had the coin of the realm to offer: playing time.

UAB is not winning because the team is older. We're winning because we recruited smart and because the team is well coached.

As to "UAB will crater after these seniors are gone", you can bet that the coaches know what we have and where the weaknesses are. If there are true voids to fill, I think that the last two seasons will make UAB very attractive to the better players (HS and JUCO) at those positions. We'll go after JUCOs for need positions. We're in full high school recruiting mode, and for the first time in our history we have a coach who won lots of HS games and championships in state. Clark is well respected by HS coaches here, and we're getting better recruits than we ever have.

Oh, and if you look at last night's game, Tyler Johnston got his first college start. His QB rating for yesterday was 96.1 - the #1 QBR for the day. In his first start. Our star RB is a sophomore. We'll be weaker in places, particularly OL, but that's how this game works.

Sorry guys, we're not going away, but if thinking so makes you feel better about next year, well... whatever gets you through the night.

C'mon man...I respect U-aye-bay a lot, please don't start acting like FAU fans and their ONE YEAR DYNASTY.

You KNOW your recruiting stockpiling was somewhat of an advantage...just like taking non-qualifiers...And, of course, no one is gonna write or call their President because no one would actually wanna try it that way.

Good years in C-USA have a way of becoming bad years (WKU, ya listening?) real soon, so act like you've been there before (wait! You haven't04-cheers)...and everyone on here is not trying to downgrade your great accomplishments the last two years.

But, that's all you've had, the last two years...

Good Luck the rest o' the way (except USM of course)..and I hope you keep your coach.

Benefiting from a boost? What utter horse ****. We started the season last year with maybe 10 guys that had ever played a minute of FBS football. Last night we had a walk-on snapping to a RS freshman Qb, who handed it off most of the night to a sophomore RB. The only interception of the game for UAB? Another RS freshman.

I also want to know more about all these P5 transfers that supposedly came to UAB. We did get some high profile commitments but almost none of those guys ever made it to campus much less the field, Greg Banks being a tragic exception.

Coach Clark took a team that was left for dead and got them bowl eligible his first season at UAB. Then he resurrected that team after it was murdered and won 8 games with very few highly recruited kids. If we can keep him then I'm not that worried about losing so many seniors. He'll still find a way to beat Skip in Birmingham.

Advantage? Tell you what... shut your program down. Watch all your players go have success at another school. Watch your coaches disperse, and take the kids they were recruiting with them. Lose all your signed recruits, and all the others who were interested but had not signed yet. Sit out two seasons, and I will cheerfully lobby for SoMiss to get the same treatment that we did.

We got to sign 35 players to make up for the recruiting classes we could not sign because we had no team. That wasn't special treatment, that was to let us come back on something approaching a level playing field. I'm sure y'all would have rather us lose all those players so we'd have been easier to beat. Sorry, not sorry.

Do you not feel you were given an advantage over fcs teams moving up to d1? How many of them have 35 D1 recruits in their 5th or 6th year? Do you think any program will be awarded the same in the future?
Of course no program will ever try this in the future. But it is what it is.

Here. I'll help you out.

I didn't start this pissing contest.

I think some people are butthurt because we didn't suck like we were supposed to.
