Houston fans, not to disparage, but you're crowd was VERY underwhelming Saturday. I already know USF's leaves a ton to be desired, however ours have been pretty good this year (42,000+ for UConn). What's the story for your crowd Saturday; your stadium looked half full. Maybe.

I had the same thoughts. Really surprised me that our crowd was so sparse for a ranked opponent at 2:30. The most surprising was our students. Our students have been really phenomenal the last 4 years, even for underwhelming opponents, but they did not show up well at all Saturday. We have had some games with awesome 40k+ crowds, Memphis/Navy 2015, UConn/Louisville 2016, hell even Rice last year. I really thought Saturday would be similar, but I was greatly disappointed.

Apparently about 30% of our fans are boycotting games due to Kendall Briles Baylor connections. Many notable season ticket holders and many students. :(

I’m surprised you young guys don’t know that Houston coogs don’t really get people at their football and basketball games!? There’s been many bb games with hundreds of people in attendance over the years. The number listed in FB attendance (30k!) is so the incredibly ridiculous...
And of course a Texas team like Rice/UTSA will draw more vs the coogs than a Temple/UConn/USF east coast team that has 0 traveling fans.

RE: AAC "Announced" Attendance Average Rankings after Week 9
I was surprised myself at the attendance on Saturday for such a matchup...but the fact is UH hasn't been getting a ton of press here in Houston this year. We've been crowded out so far by the Astros playoff run, the Texans (always #1 in this town), and excitement about the Rockets (which appears to be tempering). Now that we have that "magic number" in front of our name (Top 25), and with the press about D'Eriq King, we'll get some traction.

The band-waggoners are coming late to the party, but there's plenty of room for them. I think we'll see attendance rise in our next two home games.

I would put that number more around 5%-10%. However, when filling a 40,000 seat stadium, that means you start with 36k. I was expecting around 35k for the USF game and was surprised at the 31K+ announced. The Briles hire definitely has had an effect, but it is not too exaggerated.

As a side note, I don't agree with their decision. There has been nothing but unsubstantiated allegations and hearsay regarding Kendal's involvement with any of the sexual assault victims or his involvement in the rape culture at Baylor. I don't like this new trend to crucify people in the court of public opinion without any due process.

The students not showing up has more to do with midterms and family weekend. I wouldn't read too much into it. The students have been phenomenal.

I'll say that the late 90s and early 2000s, until we hired Kendal's dad, that's what Cougar games were for. A great excuse to get really loaded, mainly so you couldn't remember what you saw on the field.

Why is anyone defensive about attendance? Who wants to watch group of 5 football? That any of us get tens of thousands of people to watch group of 5 football live is a miracle in itself.

That’s usually a recipe for a packed house... so is there something deeper going on there?

Houston fans are fair weathered and it bleeds to all the sports in the city. this is to include the professional sports. I have seen it done to the Astros, Rockets, and Oilers/Texans. its a huge city with many things that vie for the attraction of its residents.

it is what it is but they love a winner. so all the coogs can do is win and continue to win and the fans will come. when that happens they can fill up a whole stadium (Game of the Century, or vs Oklahoma).

I think two mostly let down years hurt us. But at the the start of 2016 we were doing awesome coming off the peach bowl win.

I think the blame should also be placed to our current ZERO/NO HYPE head coach... Applewhite needs borrow a few sales pitches from loud mouth Herman...Steering the pot was something Herman was extremely good at while here in Houston.

True! Applewhite lacks fire and never seems to show emotion.

yeah I feel ya. I myself have never been to a game but it's definitely on my to do list whenever I get back in state. I live halfway across the world and have to stay up from 2am just to watch a live game.

I at least count for a rating? well, when it's not pirated of course.

Our schools all need a sugar daddy to pay people to come to our games. And maybe use some other political strategies like getting dead people to buy season tickets just to pump up the attendance numbers. Anyone friends with George Soros?

lol I mean, I agree G5 attendance in general sucks vs the big boys but I'm not going to say 'who wants to watcht g5 football'. The ratings on some of our games are pretty darn good and 30k average (which is what the top 5 or 6 schools average) isn't great compared to say the SEC or B1G, but, it right there with MLB, and better than NBA etc. so yeah, to answer your question, there are a lot of people that want to watch G5 football.

Why am I defending the AAC????? Can somebody tell me what just happened?
