Winning over BYU
I’ll start off by saying I can’t stand not being able to score points and watching our offense. It makes me want to dig my eye out with a spoon. On a positive note..... It feels so good to get a non- conference win against a program like BYU. This was not like beating a trash Nebraska team with a coach on the hot seat. This was a team with some signature wins on its resume this year, and we flat out manhandled them. Yes we need to figure out a way to score but sometimes you just have to soak in the Victory. If we win out the rest of the way, when the pundits are picking for bowls they will remember our strength of schedule and the win over the same BYU that beat a solid Wisconsin Badgers. Go Huskies! Take care of business at Akron04-rock

Not to be a downer but they had a different QB in there when they got the signature wins. Their current QB only beat Hawaii. Still a very nice defensive effort.

Yes a different QB, but that was the coaches choice and not due to injury, presumably with the thought that it would make their O more effective. It was against a bad Hawaii defense. So I don't think that QB change affects the kudos for the team for the victory.

I just question whether the new QB is even as good as the original QB.

RE: Winning over BYU
Massey composites had BYU at 65 going into this week, the Huskies were number 72. On paper it was pretty close matchup. Buffalo is a more highly regarded team right now than BYU and if NIU got to Detroit to play Buffalo, that would be the highest quality win for NIU this year. Beating BYU is important not so much because they are a good team this year, but because of the brand. Very much like the Nebraska win last season.

I would think the fans are definitely wondering the same thing. I did not watch any BYU games, but their original QB put up good numbers, and only had 3 picks, so their coach may be second-guessing himself.

The kid looks pretty good, especially for a 19 year old. Why the QB switch, who knows, but that leap the kid did over the NIU defender by the goal line was a highlight.

RE: Winning over BYU
These posts got me curious as to why BYU made the QB change. According to this article Wilson is a better athlete than Mangum, has a higher upside, and is more dynamic, and it sounds like it was the plan all along to make the switch to the dual-threat Wilson, and they just waited until what they thought was the right time.

Don't think it matters much. They thought this freshman was better and the pregame everyone was annointing this kid as the next McMahon etc... then he faced the NIU defense.

Now the byu message boards want to fire the coach, AD, and everyone else except the school mascot and cheerleaders. Sound familiar?

Not saying the kid doesn't have potential. And he certainly is elusive. But right now I think our defense will be challenged more by the passing attacks of Toledo and WMU.

The kid has a noodle arm. We should have picked him 4 times. Mangum is a better QB. I don’t know what they’re thinking. Whatever. We won!

True. Especially Toledo.
