Nope I am decades ahead of you. The guy I am think of graduated Phi Bets Kappa, but I have no idea where he is now or what happened with him in the 50+ years since.

Unsurprisingly then, history repeats itself. The guy I'm thinking of was a very nice, if somewhat awkward guy, and referred to in some circles as the wandering physicist, due to his propensity to show up at social functions with a textbook, but my recollection of the football game was that he had an orgo book.

The one I am referring to was reputed to be a Nazi, although i never saw or heard him say anything political. But I took it as just a part of the diversity in thought we had back then, if it was so. After all, my roommate was a monarchist.

he drove himself hard to make PBK, then relaxed a little. Never saw him at a party or any other social function.

Thanks men. You all came through for me again. My Rice Football Army just grew from two to six!

Given the last 4 years -- a head coach that doesnt have an at least an even record against Rice might be a rare bird indeed.

After the first game of the season in 2000 or 2001 when we beat UH, Ken Hatfield was talking to some of us in the R-Room and he said "What is the most difficult task to accomplish in college football?" The answer was "win all of your games". Then..."What is the second most difficult task in college football?"...Answer.."lose all of your games"..then he said..."I believe coach Dimel may accomplish the second most difficult task in college football" UH went 0-11 that year.

September 1, 2001 - Rice 21, Houston 14

In 2001, Rice went 8-4, with a schedule that included Houston (0-11), Duke (0-11), Navy (0-10), and Tulsa (1-10).

Three winless opponents in one season is amazing. There's only been one other winless team on Rice's schedule since then - Southern Miss (0-12) in 2012.

"Three winless opponents in one season is amazing."

Heavier conference schedules make it more difficult. When Rutgers plays Maryland, someone has to win.

My biggest issue with this is that Tulsa is the only one of those in our zip code these days. Navy having a down year, but still

What about last year’s 0-12 Miners (our only win)?

No worries my man. The 2001 schedule was crazy. Probably has not happened to anyone else this century.
