Many of the fans and donors I am friends with are talking about reducing donations and tickets purchased. I have to think the admin is going to be shocked by the exodus. They need to be kissing fans butts for sticking with the program, not asking for more right now.

I am guessing, anywhere from $50 to perhaps $400 a seat plus the cost of the ticket.

$50 to $400 is great compared to UNC Charlotte psl with two tickets is $2,380 for the lowest level and $5380 for between the 30 yard lines seats.

Just thought I would throw this thought out there before this thread went to far down the rabbit hole. Alas, if I am wrong my family will probably be sitting in the student endzone just looking at the Swells sitting in the rest of the new stadium.

They will use your points / ODAF ranking one last time at the end of this year to determine when you pick your seat. Then when you pick your seat, the seat you pick will have a reservation fee (PSL) attached to it. Then you will have to add the cost of the season ticket. The seats you pick will be yours for as long as you want them provided each year you pay the PSL and the cost of the season ticket. most every FBS program is and has moved to this approach. No time to cheap out m.....

I will also add....you will have to pay for your tailgate spot separately. True fans and supporters of the program will step up and continue their seats and donations.

Until I know what the psl will cost, I can't have much reaction. Could be any number of situations. Have to wait and see.
I'm sure Selig is fully aware of the fans attitudes right now.

I've had to change tailgate lots 4 times in 10 years due to construction. I'm getting older and less enthusiastic about tailgating. This could actually be a good thing if I chose to stop tailgating.

Are any of y'all actually contacting ODAF via phone and email to chat with the reps about the state of football versus your willingness to donate/purchase season tickets for football and basketball?

I met one of the ODAF reps prior to the Marshall game while tailgating in the black lot. The indication from that rep seemed to be that the marketing for ODAF/athletics was absolutely atrocious and that ODAF/athletic dept. felt like they were working with one hand tied behind their back.

I am guessing... $50 to $400 per seat depending on location. So that would be a total cost of $275 to 675 per seat including your season ticket.

$50 won’t be so bad. You have to contribute a min of $100 to ODAF to get a good seat now. Maybe the $50 per seat just gets taken out of my ODAF donation. Which might be good because then it can be used directly for football/stadium needs.

Any idea what accounts for this? I always thought Debbie White was the problem, but now I'm having second thoughts. Things seem to have gone south since she retired.

Before we get too worked up about this let's just wait and see what it is going to look like. ODAF is not going to an awful PSL model. They are just going to break tickets and parking/hospitality apart. From my conversation ODAF it will probably end up costing you close to the same.

What I can tell there is NO integration between ODAF, VP for Student Engagement and enrollment services, and Athletics. Everything seems disjointed with no integration from when a student enrolls to athletics or ODAF. One clear example is....Most other Universities I am familiar with the moment you enroll at the University you are an immediate member of the Student Athletic club since a student pays a student Athletic fee. Then when a student graduates they are automatically enrolled in their Alumni version of the Athletic Club (ODAF). At ECU every student is a member of the student version of the Pirate Club. Nothing like that exists at ODU so there is no pride, engagement, etc. developed for Athletics over the 4+ years while in school that carries directly into Alumni Athletic group. I just don't get why there is a gap. More prideful and engaged students leads to a higher graduation rate and then more giving alumni upon graduation.

Not 100% correct. When they break tickets and Hospitality, to get your tickets you will have to pay a PSL (Seat Reservation Fee + the cost of the Ticket).

This is not a PSL. A PSL is a one time fee per seat. They are usually in the neighborhood of several thousand dollars. This will be an annual fee on top of your tickets at a price that has not been released. I trust what Chris Schaefer when he and I spoke.

So it's not just me seeing this as a casual fan/non-alum? VT is the same way with regards to student athletic club which then leads to the hokie club once you graduate.

I feel like the game day experience is very disjointed. I went to watch the Monarch walk yesterday and was probably 1 of 75 people on the mall to see it. When athletes see zero support from the students/alumni/fans it shows up on the field. There is just so much unrealized potential with this program which in turn turns into less money donated.

Is this a one-time fee? If so, I don’t mind it.

So you think that "true fans" will remain happy being fleeced from now till the end of time. I present myself as an example of error of your thought.

The university I work at makes a very intentional effort to build pride and engagement in students the first three years. But then switches focus their senior year and tries hard to get students to recognize how they have grown over their time there, the importance of remaining engaged, and giving financially after graduation. To get them started there is even a senior class gift program the seniors take seriously. They identify a need and raise money to go toward that effort. Each year the graduating class takes pride in trying to out donate the previous class. Its all about creating an experience that goes from recruitment, to the classroom, to campus life/athletics to engagement and donating as an alumnus. Our kids should be Monarchs for life. JMU as an example, does a much better job at that sort of thing than we do.

EXACTLY.....There should not be a fee for students since they already pay athletic fees. It frustrating to see what other Universities do to build engagement and pride vs what ODU does. While I think everyone means well, I don't think ODU thinks big or forward enough to ensure the LONG term success of the University.

I will also state this VERY clearly. The day student loans are so readily available are rapidly coming to an end. This will have a huge impact on ODU because the ability of the University to rely on Government sponsored loans are going to end. The University is going to have to focus on student and families that can pay their own way and on donations to the University. I don't see how students strapped with $20k to 100K in student loans are going to be able to also donate back to the University especially if their degrees are in virtually meaningless low paying useless degrees. ODU needs to begin thinking about this today because it will impact academics and athletics in a HUGE way. We have a student loan debt crisis in this country that is unsustainable. Students and parents who worked extremely hard to save in order for their student to get a degree with no debt will be furious if these loans are paid off through debt forgiveness.
