Yep, both said Penny would try him at the 1, 2 and 3 slots, so likely not a PF slot, which Penny is selling to Trendon Watford, with Wiseman potentially at center.

So, is Memphis back?

Not trolling. I have stayed out of the majority of hoops threads to date.

It sounds like Memphis is loading up. If Penny turns out to be able to coach worth a crap, what are your expectations?

IMO, we are on the way back.

I am still formulating my AAC expectations. I first want to evaluate exhibition game results for Memphis and other conference members.

So Far Penny has started fulfilling promises that were made when he got hired (by him and fans). He's starting to land some recruits, Memphis is excited and selling tickets and is in on some big recruits coming up. Next steps are for him to win some games and then hopefully parlay that into landing big recruits that he doesn't have deep ties with in the future.

No disrespect whatsoever to the UCF's, Houston's, and SMU's of the world...(and even you, Temple)

But if UCONN, Cincy, Wichita State, & Memphis all get back to operating at their highest level... holy jeebus what a league this could be.

There are four teams in this conference who don't have good basketball history.

UCF- been decent or good lately, need to go dancing to really be considered with the other 8.

Tulane- seem to be steadily improving. Decent lately.

ECU- Lebo has been killing them. Hoops right area. Think they could have real potential.

USF- I see progress here, they could be a year or two behind Tulane but on a similar path.

Everyone else has the capability of producing NCAA teams consitantly. Four can reasonably claim final four capabilities and have had them in the past. (UConn, Memphis, Cincinatti, & WSU). Three have multiple runs of NCAA success (Temple, Tulsa, Houston) of those one is top 5 in all time wins as a program (Temple) and one had a dynasty that produced final fours (Houston). SMU has had recent success at the national level.

This conference can be a true monster in basketball.

For me, expectations are low this season on the floor. We have a lot of minutes being played by freshmen so early in the season I expect for the better teams on our schedule to beat us.....LSU, Tennessee, Nova if we play them. I do expect we will improve quite a bit by the time conference season starts though.

The comments by Erik Spolestra are especially applicable, in the wake of DJ Jeffries' commitment and our continued pursuit of Wiseman, Watford, Ellis, Green, Hampton, etc.

Also mentions Mitchell being NBA CoY.

Player development will be key. That was Pastner's problem. He could recruit, but couldn't develop talent. That remains to be seen by Penny yet. But I would take my chances he is better in that regard, than Pastner.
Remember, player development and discipline are different than being able to coach. A lot of the best "coaching" goes on behind doors in practice. It can become very obvious on gameday if the player has been coached up properly, regardless of in game coaching blunders.

Pastner alias: Goober/Opie/Dweeb, was like a Chatty Cathy doll. He said like five different things during his entire tenure as a coach.

Just pull that string with the pink plastic ring on it to hear gems like: "It's not about the X's and O's. It's about the Jimmy's and the Joes". Derp Derp! The guy was a total fraud.

C'mon Memphis fans. Let's hear some more of those classic Pastner Cliches'.

The other team is well coached, and "runs good stuff." Oh, and the other coach "is a dear friend."
