Worse than that are the recruiting "eggspurts" that made claims that DJ would go to Ole Miss or Miss State.
It's a bad look, breh.

No doubt great news here in Memphis and happy times for our program going forward. That said, my heart goes out to the families of the people in Pittsburgh. Horrible.

From Mark Giannatto’s article:
Before Memphis coach Penny Hardaway and assistant Tony Madlock walked into D.J. Jeffries' home last Sunday, Jeffries thought he had made up his mind earlier in the week.
"I was going to Mississippi State," he said.
Yep. Totally a bad, bad look.

Of course he could come back at you with quotes from GP’s article.

Agreed,
Silly knocking the insiders especially when the kid admits he was going to another school and changed his mind...They had it right at the time...They weren't guessing, obviously that had inside info and that is confirmed in the article.
But I am surprised he would choose Miss. State because he felt Hardaway wasn't paying him enough attention. I guess that is how kids think today.

Great article from Mark G. You won't see Jonah Jordan or the Memphian having a better take. Like the CA or hate the CA, Mark G is talented.
I miss him as our beat writer already. He is on the Mike DeCourcey level as far as writing is concerned. I love to hear him on the radio too. I hope he continues the long standing tradition that started with Mike of Tiger beat writers getting national gigs.

Lots of us believed in Penny. I believe you have to allow the whole thing to play out. I never thought he would go to Mississippi state or ole miss. In most cases the local player wants to be a Tiger growing up. Sure he could say “I like Mississippi state. I’m leaning to going to Mississippi state.” But I just thought to myself and talking with a few friends,... let Penny finish his recruitment of the kid. Let Penny talk to him. I believe in Penny and his ability to “close”. I remember Andre Turner saying to Larry Finch that he was going to go to Auburn. Larry didn’t let that happen. Larry closed the deal. I never believed their crystal ball predictions on DJ. And I highly doubt I’m alone with that. I do realize several here believed the crystal ball predictions having DJ going to a Mississippi school, but I wasn’t one of them.

I don't want to rain on the parade and I am certainly glad he wants to come to Memphis, but it does concern me. It is becoming a common topic about him that he wants a lot of attention. The fact that he would consider leaving KY to go to MS St. so he can be the focal point of attention makes me wonder if things don't go absolutely incredible next season if he will be looking for an out.

Trendon Watford would set up beautifully as a point forward in Penny's ideal 2019 line up

Good point. But I think there is a comfort level here than anywhere else he could be and he's well aware we are recruiting Wiseman, Watford, Boogie, Ramsey and Achiuwa and he wants to come. Knowing that level of talent might join him in the class along with playing with friends and coaches he knows won't be an issue as long as he's developed into becoming a draftable NBA prospect. Can you imagine a team stacked with that talent to go along with the coaching/approach this staff will execute? It would be like a NBA training camp every day.

I agree with that, but I do think we will have a good record this year. I think we finish no worse than third in the league and actually I think we finish better than third (provided we stay healthy). I also think we clearly will have a huge advantage with the conference tournament being here.

Right. I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought we would be bad this year. Just that I think Penny will have enough high quality recruits signed to help him overcome a bad record, should that happen year 1
