Absolutely horrible execution punt after punt. The Punter seems to take forever to boot the ball, the mid-blockers hardly slow down those attempting to block the kick. And we aren't getting distance on our punts.

Long snap, grab ball, take 3 quick steps and punt. How hard is it?

9 games into the season and we're still fighting to get punts off so they aren't blocked?

Who the He-- is coaching Special Teams? Time to kick some butts or replace some players.

Toledo was doing something different, we did adjust.

I believe the gameplan was keep it away from the returner all night, hence the sky punts. It's clear we were terrified of Toledo's top three receivers. But, just like the defensive gameplan, I think we overthought it last night. I think with an all true-freshman special teams cast, we get a little bit too cute at times, they just aren't ready to execute those targeted kicks yets.

Toledo's #1 in the nation for blocking punts.

RE: What is with our punting team?
My impression is we are getting "too cute" with our Kickoffs and Punts - perhaps because Braaten can't constently reach EZ on KOs and Mihalec can't hang punts high-far enough to cover effectively - without taking into consideration their inexperience-ability to make pooch or "sky"KOs and Rugby-style punts on the run.

Maybe better off to do more conventional kicks with more front line players on the units stressing effort-execution.

Also only having two blockers on Punt "shield" instead of three as is common seems to be a problem.

Kicking Game is no time to try and get young players their letter at the cost of field position.

I was afraid we were going to miss Derrick Mitchell a lot.
