RE: Tracy Claeys, winning at Washington State
Interesting article.
Off topic, but I will never understand the love that anyone from Tech fans to national media (aka ESPN) shows Leach. The man is a side show, a vile POS with zero integrity. From his actions as a coach, to his trying to leave Tech for Washington under the radar then getting upset (almost as much as their fans) when the let him go, to player treatment to his nonsensical comments. He's in the perfect place though. Middle of nowhere (like Lubbock was), worshipped by a base that was hungry not only for a winner but to win a few games period.

If by sideshow you mean the ability to turn around one of the worst P5 programs in the Nation. Then sure...he's a sideshow. What he has done in Pullman is beyond amazing. The man can flat out coach and can spot coaching talent (Phelps being one of them). Wazzu was picked to be fifth in the Pac12 North and now they are leading it...pretty good for a sideshow. There is no other coach who *would* go to Pullman and do the same thing he has done.
Leach drives me crazy with a lot of the stuff he says (that's not related to football) but I'd take him over Urban Meyer or other "big name" coaches.
Also, Pullman is not the middle of nowhere, however, you can see it from there.

You can practically see the Kibbie Dome at Idaho from there. That pretty much says it all for me.

While at TT he guy basically left in the middle of the night to interview with Washington. He was caught doing it behind their back and they decided to keep him, extend him on until they could use something against him, which wasn't real hard. Since then his legacy has grown to folklore in Texas all for a guy who wanted to skip town under the radar.
To me it isn't a contest of popularity vs. a guy like Meyer and in fact, I can see why WSU would adore him and his rhetoric. He brought success to a school with none with a tad less controversy than his past. I mean he hasn't tried to pull a Baltimore Colts....yet. And the gimmick flies there in the middle of nowhere which even makes Lubbock look like a metropolis. It wouldn't in most of the P5.

Did Minnesota go all-in on PJ's goofy "row the boat" theme, or did cooler heads prevail?
WMU was probably glad to see the whole thing go away.

I know I’ve seen RTB either on the helmets or jerseys or both.

I saw PJ wearing it while getting smoked by Nebraska.

Yep didn't they pay WMU something like $100k for the rights? I hope that covered the cost of rebranding everything in Kalamazoo

Pj bought the RTB rights from WMU to bring to Minny. At least it works in the land of 10k lakes. I was always lost on the broncos rowing a boat thing.

WMU tolerated it because they were winning. People would tolerate the coach wearing a tutu if they're winning, but the new age stuff wears off fast if you're mediocre.

Going Ofer in the Big Ten is way less than mediocre. Gopher fans appear to have had it with his shtick
