The website says that it is the Renissance Montgomery. It looks nice.
My limited experience with Mongomery has not been very positive. So, I am not planning on trying to find a deal in that town.
The hotel suggested on the EMU release was already sold out last night.
I think I'm going to book a hotel in the Birmingham area. Lots of good hotels and decent prices.

Wow.
Depending on travel plans, Huntsville is nice too.

Thanks. It appears the Renaissance is sold out already. But I did book at the band hotel, the Drury Inn.

By the "band hotel," do you mean the EMU Marching Band is attending?

Yeah, our fans pretty much had a week head start for booking hotels due to leaks in the media.

Yeah, that's bull****. Especially the university being in GA.
Can't wait to crush you and your Wyoming high school triple option offense.

Also, it was process of elimination since 2 of our 5 bowls were slated to the Winner/Loser of our Conference Title game. Ark State was obvious for Arizona Bowl due to the proximity. So it came down between Troy/Southern for Camellia and Dollar General before any announcements. I knew folks that put reservations for both cities before media leaks.. then once media leaks took place.. we started to gobble up Montgomery hotels.
As for the Wyoming HS offense comment.. LOL

Yeah, I suppose that was a smart play your parts.
What does everyone know about the best bar spots in Montgomery?

Most of the recommendations I've seen say that there are good options right around the two team hotels. The name Alley Bar keeps popping up.
Fair warning - at our last bowl, we legitimately took over at least one bar and one eating establishment in Mobile for the 2-3 days leading up to the game. At one point, I recall someone paying off the band to allow one of our fans to borrow a guitar and play a few songs.

How big a crowd will Ga Southern bring?

We travel really well. Montgomery is only 2 hours from Atlanta where a majority of our alumni live. I'd expect between 8-12k

8-12k might be a bit of a stretch, but we'll definitely have a good crowd.
This isn't quite the novelty of our first ever bowl game. Then again, that game was played in a cold rain, on a Wednesday night two days before Christmas in a city much farther away from our main fan base. So who knows? I'm certain that about 1000 will be there for the week like I will, with a ton of people coming up on Friday night or making it a day trip on Saturday.

Hope we have at least 8k so the Athletic Department doesn't have to pay out of pocket for any unsold tickets. So far we've sold 2,000 tickets. If the folks who came out to the Georgia State game show up, I think we have 10k fans there.

Interesting, the band members have not been informed either way yet.

RE: Bowl Talk 2018
This article is a couple years old, but it gives some detail on bowl payouts. Essentially, it sounds like the MAC pools the payouts and then disburses cash plus some amount of tickets.
“We at the MAC provide each of our teams going to bowls a bowl reimbursement and tickets to offset the expense of playing in a bowl game. There is no specific ticket requirement to purchase for any institution to any of our bowls. Tickets are provided so each program can sell tickets and use the funds to cover expenses related to the bowl game.
“In addition,” Mather continued, “at the end of the football season, we as a Conference office provide equally to our membership a football distribution related to our ‘College Football Playoff’ agreement.”

Sun Belt is similar. Camellia Bowl is the SBC's lowest payout, but all of it is pooled and split. Really wish we could have found a bowl to take ULM since that would have been a few extra dollars in our pocket.

Thanks, Frank.
This essentially was my understanding of how expenses and distributions were handled.
