You can move from Caddy to Bentley when you hit a homerun stock that quadruples your networth in 3 years.

Then it is time to finally move out of your Mom's basement "apartment." I know a decent amount of people with FU type money and they never talk about it. To brag on a message board about it makes me think that you don't have two nickels to rub together... and even if you do its still sad.

That's kind of a slap in the face to Huggins, the coach who absolutely made his dad.

Meh. Not a surprise. KMart Sr. called out the university's coaching search on social media so why would his son commit to Cincinnati? On the flip, I'm sure it was a mutual feeling. Have fun in the SEC basement but take advantage of a great degree opportunity at Vandy...

Or maybe he decided Vandy was the best situation for him on its own merit. Not everything has to be some sort of underlying meaning. Im sure KMart Sr. has a relationship with Stackhouse as well from his time in the league.

Quote:Sources: Kenyon Martin Jr. to skip college, go pro

Jeff Borzello
ESPN Staff Writer
Kenyon Martin Jr., son of former NBA forward Kenyon Martin, is skipping college to pursue professional basketball opportunities, sources confirmed to ESPN.
247Sports first reported the news.
Martin committed to Vanderbilt in early May and signed a national letter of intent on May 15. He was expected to arrive on campus this week, but he informed the Vanderbilt coaching staff earlier this week he instead planned on exploring professional options, sources told ESPN.
Top-five recruit R.J. Hampton announced in late May that he was bypassing college and signed a professional contract with the New Zealand Breakers of the National Basketball League in Australia. Hampton's announcement to skip college influenced Martin's decision, sources told ESPN.
Kenyon Martin Jr. shares a moment with his father, Kenyon Martin, during his high school career. Martin, who signed with Vanderbilt last month, has decided to skip college to pursue a professional career, sources confirmed to ESPN.
Martin, a three-star forward from Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, California, is not believed to have signed a professional contract at this point. He averaged 16.7 points and 9.8 rebounds for Sierra Canyon last season.
Martin played alongside Scotty Pippen Jr. -- son of the NBA Hall of Famer -- with both Sierra Canyon School and the Oakland Soldiers grassroots program, and Pippen also signed with Vanderbilt in the 2019 recruiting class. Pippen arrived on campus earlier this week.
Vanderbilt went 0-18 in SEC play last season and fired head coach Bryce Drew shortly after its campaign ended. The Commodores replaced Drew with two-time NBA All-Star Jerry Stackhouse, who played for 18 seasons in the NBA before spending four seasons as a coach in both the NBA and D-League.

Well all the hand wringing earlier this year about whether he'd come to Cincinnati turned out to be much ado about nothing.
Still, prestigious, private Vanderbilt seemed an unlikely choice if he wasn't committed to pursuing a college education at this point in his life. I do wish him well with his decision.

Wow. Do you think this skipping to college to go play pro abroad is going to become a more prevalent choice among high school players?
I remember David west was trying to make some paid league to rival the NCAA at one point

People dont get it, but these secondary pro leagues are never going to truly compete with NBA, NFL, etc or college for thst matter. They are just viewed as "minor league". Where College is not necessarily viewed as "minor league", but amateurism. People are drawn to amateur sports, especially when they represent a college they are affiliated with or region they are from. Start paying college players and all the sudden the NCAA is just another F-League and interest will slowly fade.

I like that players have choices on how to develop their careers. However I think if you're not a sure fire pro you're missing a big opportunity by not playing in college. How many of our guys have hung around town and get better job opportunities because of name recognition from having played here? This guy's a three star recruit so he's obviously not a sure fire pro. Of course his father made an incredible amount of money in the pros so he's probably got a much bigger safety net.

Because we're talking about Vandy, i think there's a potential lost in life time earnings here. Guess it depends on how much he can get from those pro leagues. I doubt he's much of a big time NBA prospect.
Would be interesting to see how it all plays out. I'll be long gone, but still....
