CUSA is a guard dominate league. You don't need highly talented or more athletic 4s or 5s. You need OUTSTANDING guard play and versatile 3's.

I'd like to see ODU have highly talented and more athletic 4's and 5's than the rest of CUSA along with their solid guard play, and both dominate them and get back to the NCAA Tourney. The talented 4's and 5's come in handy against the power conference teams. Jones seems to have that in mind with the makeup of the current squad.

If Aaron Carver starts, with the amount of talent on this team, something is wrong.

Keep in mind that Carver played pretty well early in the season until he pulled a hamstring. After that he seemed to lose confidence and was never the same. I am not in the corner of starting Carver but just saying he has the experience and works very hard. I would not be surprised to see him start. That doesn't mean he will play a ton of minutes either.

Maybe Alfis will start, his numbers last year in 19 mins were phenomenal. /s

Carver is obviously very limited offensively, but his defense and rebounding is valuable in itself. I remember Nick King lighting us up when Carver was not in the game and doing nothing when Carver was guarding him. He's a guy that can handle his own rebounding and can guard mobile 4s (unlike Porter/Stith last year).

Situationally, he's not a bad guy to have on the roster. Would love to have more offense.

I agree with that. Having him on the roster is important, because he can be a guy that can get you a stop when you need one. He also works hard and has some leadership qualities. Maybe I should've clarified...I do not want him getting starting minutes, but I am not the coach.

How??

We weren’t an ncaa tourney team last year and neither transfer is anywhere near as good as stith or porter.

I know you guys love to “win the offseason”, but we still have some HUGE front court question marks. If either of these guys is a stiff we still have a huge hole to fill in the starting lineup.

Glad he got the waiver, now let’s see what he and the other 7 footer can do before we make any grand proclamations.

From what I've seen/heard, Dickens is overall better than Porter when he first came to ODU (at the same age). My hope is that his development is similar/better than Porter's over his time at ODU.

That may be, but he isn’t going to be better than porter would have been THIS year, hence, this is another step back, especially with Stith moving on as well.
He is better than Porter currently. Porter was a head case that hurt the team. Offensively Dajour is just as good. Defensively he is better. Finally he is more athletic.

This is just flat out not true. Porter would have been 1st team All CUSA. Dickens has done nothing so far, let him earn it before such absurd proclamations.

Gotta agree with RRM on this. Dajour did nothing at Providence to even make someone think this is true.
Plus am I the only one who noticed that JJ indicated that the guy was going half ass in practice prior to finding out that the waiver was approved and now he is turning it back on.

"This is flat out not true" is an unsubstantiated opinion countering an unsubstantiated opinion disguised as a fact. Neither of you know for sure how Porter or Dajour would have/ will do this year.

Whats fact is Porters production last year far outweighed Dickens production. None of us can change the fact that Dickens was hurt but if you think Dickens is going to come out and put up 13 pts and 6 rbs per game after virtually having no real college playing experience, your kidding yourself. Hes basically a redshirt freshman FOR US learning ODU Basketball.

You really think hes going to avg 13 pts/game?

I sure dont. Glad he's eligible no doubt but I dont think hes going to come out and replace the 13pts/6rebs that Porter was giving us. I dont know if you watched Dickens in the State Championship the year before he went to Providence but if you did, you might change your expectations. Size cannot be taught but hopefully DOMINANCE will be because as a 7 footer, you need to establish yourself, and thats something he did not do as a highschool player among much smaller players.

He has a point. Dickens only averaged 20 points and 15 rebounds per game as a high school senior. Had 18/18 vs hampton in the semis.

Had 10/14 and a bunch of blocks in state title game where Bird employed a full court press and Bethel turned it over 15 times.

I don't know what Dickens can give us this year, but I agree that expecting him to fill Porter's production this year is a bit much.

The important thing that Dickens gives us is an interior player that has to be accounted for on the offensive end of the floor. I'm not sure we have that without Dickens.

The other Bigs are a question mark but the potential is there.

Is it possible Robinson and Dickens can combine for 13 and 6? I think so (without having seen either play, TBH)

We dont need Dickens to average 13/6. We are a much deeper team and the returning ayers should increase their production.

We need defense and rebounding from dickens and he will provide that. If he gets a handful of putbacks/pnr drives/transition buckets......thats gravy. He is a very good talent.

I dont expect much from robinson.

By all means, tell us how he's going to avg 15pts/7rebs a game and is going to set the world on fire.

Nothing NEGATIVE about my post at all. FACTS. The only stats we know about Dickens are his HS stats and 3 games at Providence that were NO HEAD TURNERS. Not a bad thing because he was a transitioning hs to college player and thats truth.

Unless he changed his name after getting hurt and played somewhere else in this universe under an alias, NONE OF US HAVE ANY OTHER STATS TO SHOW OF HIS.

FOR THAT REASON ALONE, I'm not crowning anyone. Heaven forbid us smart ones take the wait and see approach.

Little too many Dr. Fords on here...unproven proclamations everywhere!

I don't mind realism what bugs me is the demands for something, big men, higher ratted players, etc, and then when the coaching staff actually manages to meet hose demands, the goal post moves.

And there was no need to pull in any political comments we can talk for hours about the Liar and Chief 05-ban

High School Stats- 20 points and 15 rebounds per game. God knows how many blocks.

Providence- played a total of 10 minutes before getting injured. 6 points and 3 rebounds.

What was not head turning about his high school stats?

I don't think anybody is moving the bar. If you think that just signing dudes who were once highly rated means mission accomplished, you are pretty short sighted. Nothing is accomplished until these kids perform on the court. For that, it is most reasonable to wait and see. I think everyone is fairly optimistic that we have some solid talent, but it is a bit rash to get all giddy about guys that have yet to perform at the level we are hoping/expecting.

Explain where the goal post was, and where it is now after my statement. I'll wait for this one.
